This is a picture of (L) Mattie P. Rodgers (nee Clemons), (M) Carrie Bell nee 
Phears/Clemons & (R) Charlie Amos Jensen, taken circa 1945.  Mattie was the 
mother of Carrie Bell, and her father was McDonald D. Phears.  Mattie and 
Phears were never married, but had three children together, of which one was 
Carrie.  Mattie was born Martha P. Clemons, daughter of Ira & Martha (nee 
Dallas) Clemons of neighboring Washington County.  She was born 27 Apr 1853 in 
Washington County, and died 5 Feb 1948 in Lee County, at age 94.  McDonald was 
married to Mattie's older sister, Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Clemons.  Family lore 
has it that "Aunt Bette" would not allow Mattie's children to take the name 
Phears, so they grew up with the last name Clemons, thus it is now sometimes 
seen written as above, Clemons/Phears.  Biologically though, Phears is the 
father of Carrie Bell, Ira, and Pauline "Polly" Clemons/Phears.  Mattie 
Rodgers, Carrie & Charlie Jensen are all buried in the Lexington 
Cemetery.      

Additional Comments:
Mattie later married James M. Rodgers sometime around 1886 in Van Alstyne, 
Grayson County, TX.  She had three children with Jim:  James Dedric, Ira 
McDonald, and Ada Rodgers.
