Baxter KING Who participated in the Battle of Salado Creek, Bexar County, and joined the Mier Expedition 1842 First tax collector of Leon County Born in Tennessee Died 1872 On November 26, 1999 Homer Coleman took Herbert H. McCarter out into his pasture and showed him the actual place where Mr. King was supposed to be buried. No one really knows who else was buried here. Mr. Coleman said that an old black man had at one time said that his Daddy was buried here also, but no one knows for sure. Mr. Coleman said that tradition says that this monument is sitting where it is instead of the actual burial site is that when the people from the State came out to erect it back in 1936 that the weather was bad and the road was in such a mess that they took it upon themselves to put it in this location to make it easier on themselves.
