Vinson -March 30, 1971 MEXIA MAN DIES AFTER GUN ACCIDENT Mexia (SPL)-Vernon O. Vinson, 59, of Mexia was killed Tuesday night in a freak gun accident at Tehuacana. Mr. Vinson and his wife had been visiting his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Duncan in Tehuacana. They were on their way home in the family pick-up truck when the accident occurred. Mrs. Vinson said her husband had been bothered during the trip by the rattling of a .22 rifle in a gun rack in the back of the cab of his truck. She said her husband stopped and got out of the truck and asked her to "stop that old gun from rattling on." Mrs. Vinson reached back to adjust its position and the rifle discharged. The bullet went through the cab wall and struck Mr. Vinson in the chest. Justice of the Pace Sam Bonner ruled the death was accidental. He said the safety on the rifle had been on. Funeral services will be today at 4 p.m. at the Blair-Stubbs Funeral Chapel, Rev. Ellis Holden Jr. of Coolidge officiating. Burial will be in the Tehuacana Cemetery.
