Sowders is buried at coordinates N 31.19.845 / W 096.36.091 in Sowders Family Cemetery, Limestone County, TX. Inscription: Berry V. Sowders, Born Aug. 9, 1838, Died June 20, 1897. The written instructions for reaching the Sowders family cemetery given on the Limestone County Cemetery website are quite complete and easy to follow. There were 7 existing headstones in the Sowders family cemetery in August 2004, but we found only one, this one, on January 3, 2009. I'm sorry the others are missing because Mary E. Sowders, Berry Vernon's wife was my great great grandmother and the other Sowders headstones were other ancestors of mine. Additional Comments: Berry Vernon and Mary Elizabeth Rodgers Sowders owned and operated a boarding house near this location. People came here to stay and "take" the mineral waters found at Sowders Wells. My grandmother told of how, when she was a little girl, she would walk to the Sowders house (her grandparents) to swing in the swing attached to the big tree near the home. Berry V. was a self-educated scholar who read Greek and Latin according to my grandmother, Onie Oletha Polk Cook.
