This information was taken directly from the "Holden Family Bible", which is in the 

possession of the Daughters of the Republic at the research library in San Antonio 

Texas, on the grounds of the Alamo. 

	

The HOLDEN Family of Georgia originally owned the Bible, published in 1811, which was 

brought to Texas in 1836 by the descendents of Richard and Sarah Holden, to what is now 

Llano County. George Washington Holden was the first to arrive in the Republic and was 

followed by his sister Jemimah Holden, who had married Captain William Hickman Dunman 

in 1841. They arrived in February of 1845 with two of their daughters Josephine and Jennie. 

In 1857, Josephine married John Bruce Duncan and was given the family Bible; it in turn 

was passed down to her son, Jeff Duncan, upon her death. On April 21, 1947, Jeff Duncan 

donated the Family Bible to the Alamo Museum, San Antonio, Texas.



	George Washington Holden and John Bruce Duncan were some of the first families 

to settle in and around Llano County, Texas.

 There were more names on this page, but the writing had faded making

 it impossible to read. I am mad at my self because I should have

 at least written the "years" that were legible beside some of the

 faded names.



There is a notation on the bottom of this page that is describing the events 

on 13 Nov 1833, the night of Shooting Stars. I believe this date to be someone 

birthday and on that night there was a meteorite shower.
