March 11th '98 Andrew Allsup & family Dear son and daughter I seate myself to Drop you a few lines to let you know that we are all well at Present hoping these few lines ma find you all the same there has ben a heape of sickness in this country this winter but we have escaped so far Lagrippe and Pneumona has ben very fatal old man Byfield Died the 17th of Feb the old woman and Alaice Talk of going to New Mex to Columbus I have rented Part of My farm to Frank me and Judy will cultivate the balance Carl is still teaching school Columbus started for Mexico with cattle but they could not cross the continental line and they had to come back I dont know what he will do John is still at Shawnee Oklahoma I thought perhaps he would come by to se us but I guess he has gone back before now We have had a considerable Drough but its Raining Now from a way back some few People are Planting Corn but it is most to soon for this country we are done braking land but will not Plant for some days yet Ardmore has Received by wagon 48,500 bales of cotton this fall and winter can any of your Texas towns beat that the two gins at Ardmore has gined over 4000 Each some of our country gins has gined over 2000 our gin at Reck is a small consern but it has gined over 700 bales Respectfuly your H P Allsup Notes by Phyllis Hill: Old man Byfield was James Byfield who was married to Elizabeth Hines Byfield, an older sister of H. P. Allsup's wife, Syrilda Jane Hines Allsup. Columbus and Alice were their children. Columbus Byfield was listed in the 1900 census, living in Nogal, Lincoln Co., NM. Elizabeth is buried in the Nogal Cemetery. James is buried in the Reck Cemetery in Carter County, OK. Carl, the teacher, was a son of H. P. and Syrilda Allsup, as were Columbus and Frank, Judy must be the son Judson Bailey, called Jud by the family. John, who was at Shawnee, Oklahoma was a son of H. P. Allsup and his 2nd wife, Frances Moore. Andrew Allsup was a son of H. P. Allsup and his first wife, Eddith A. Moore. Henry Pulliam Allsup and his family, the Byfields and the Isaac Weeks family were all in Llano County in the 1880 census. Martha Matilda Hines Weeks was a sister of Elizabeth Byfield and Syrilda Allsup. They moved to Reck, Carter County, Indian Territory, Chickasaw Nation, in 1896. ===============================================================================================
