My mother sent me copies of a couple of newspaper articles from Llano County.



The first is from the Front Page of the "Llano Rural" of Llano Texas, dated

Thursday Nov. 12, 1885.



"IN THE MIDST OF LIFE, WE ARE IN DEATH". 

The sudden death of Mr. James Hines in the county court room last Friday, is 

but another painful evidence that "in the midst of life, we are in death."  

Mr. Hines, in a suit in the justice court, upon an account on Sept. 10th, 

1885, obtained judgement for twenty dollars and a quarter. The gentleman 

against whom judgement was obtained, appealed to the county court.  On Friday 

morning the case was reached,  both parties announced ready for a trial, a 

jury was selected and sworn, Mr. Hines being plaintiff, at once took his seat 

upon the witness stand, apparently in perfect health and unexcited, and 

after answering many questions in a plain and intelligent manner, he suddenly 

commenced to breathe hurriedly and loudly, clutched his hands in a convulsive 

manner, then his head fell to one side.  Attorneys and others caught him, 

threw water in his face and raised him from his chair and laid him down, 

by which time Dr. J.H. Ford reached him, to find his pulse gone, and him...
