Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the City of Lubbock Cemetery with Mr. Doug Hale officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Mrs. Burgett was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Gaines County, to the late Roy and Clara (Jones) Cummins. She married Joe Sooter in 1951. Following Joe's death in 1987, she married Bill Burgett in 1989. Together they established the Shallowater Senior Center. Lorene was also an active member of Meals on Wheels, a longtime member of Vandelia Church of Christ in Lubbock, as well as the Church of Christ in Shallowater. Throughout her life, she was a loving and loyal wife, mother and grandmother. She was known as "Mama Lo" to her grandchildren, who were constant sources of pride. In 2004, she moved to the Craig Retirement Community in Amarillo where she lived until her death. Mrs. Burgett was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Burgett, in 1999. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nicki and Jim Wilcoxson of Amarillo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and June Sooter of Lebanon, Ky., and Tim and Lana Sooter of Tucson, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Carnetta Conner and husband Jerry of Amarillo; three stepsons, Bryan Burgett and wife Linda of Lubbock, Glen Burgett and wife Karen of Shallowater, and Roy Sooter and wife Sue of Amarillo; two sisters, Faye Gill and husband Clyde of Lubbock, and Pauline Eklund of Brush, Colo.; 1 7 grandchildren ; 2 5 great-grandchildren; and her beloved canine companion, Lexie. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to BSA Hospice, 200 NW 7th, Amarillo, TX 79107. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
