All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** From the files of June Tuck TUCKER, WILLIAM ALONZO, (LON), DR. - Was the youngest son of Uncle "Biv" V.D. and Aunt Elizabeth Tucker, pioneer settlers of the Pleasant Hill (Nelta) community. V.D. Tucker was born in Kentucky, June 1, 1833. His wife was born November 4, 1833, in Indiana, the daughter of Daniel and Harriet Neely Hudson who came to Texas about 1845, making a settlement in this same community. These were all noble families by birth. Dr. Lon Tucker was born 67 years ago at old Pleasant Hill, the spot made hallowed by his wonderful association. He obtained his primary and common school education at the old school house. He completed his medical study at the medical college at Louisville, Kentucky. He was married at Peerless, Texas, to Miss Ida Jordan, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jno. W. Jordan, deceased. He practiced at Peerless for a number of years where they had a nice home. About 20 years ago they moved to Slaton, Texas, where he has spent his last days in the practice of his coveted profession. He died at his home at Slaton, January 15, 1938, where he will be buried. He was the brother of Mrs. J. M. (Joe) Conner, uncle to Mrs. C.P. McKinney, Mrs. Brodie McClendon, and Mrs. Elmer Conner, cousin to Mrs. Mattie Dawson, Mrs. W.C. Veazey, Minor Hudson and Mrs. H.W. France, cousin to the Merchant family, the Cliftons at Sulphur Bluff, and to Gid Smith's family, and others. Written by Eli Hargrave.
