The two Cates brothers (Valentine & James Littleton), were originally from Henry Co (now Clayton Co. area), Georgia, but moved with their parents to the Cass/Davis Co. Texas sometime between 1853 & 1857 Company K, Ninth Regiment Infantry Kentucky Volunteers, CSA Enlisted on 15 Sept 1861 at Jefferson, Marion Co., Texas AKA: Capt. Watts Cameron's Company -- Texas Infantry This company was organized at Jefferson, Marion Co., Texas, September 15, 1861, and reported for service in the CSA at Bowling Green, Kentucky. By special order No. 247, Headquarters, Western Department, CSA, December 1, 1861 it was attached to the regiment being organized by Col. Thomas H. Hunt, then known as the 5th Regiment and subsequently as the 9th Regiment Infantry, Kentucky Volunteers. At the reorganization of the Confederate Army of the Western Department at Corinth, Mississippi, this company was on April 25, 1862, consolidated with and become a part of Captain Christian Bosche's Company "H."
