J. Benefield, 42, died at the Kahn Memorial hospital at 12:20 this morning from injuries sustained in an automobile accident north of Marshall Friday night. Benefield, a rural mail carrier out of Jefferson, was injured when the car he was driving went into a ditch and turned over one mile south of Woodlawn. His head was crushed. A negro in the car with Benefield was injured but not seriously. When questioned, the negro said an approaching car edged the car Benefield was driving into a ditch. The car turned over several times. The driver of the other car did not stop to ascertain the results of the accident. Mr. Benefield was well known in this city, having visited here many times. He married a former Daingerfield young lady, who was Mrss Lilla Stringfellow before her marriage.
