Luck 19 March 2002 ************************************************************************ Mrs. E. J. Slaughter died November 25, 1906. She was sick only a few days with pneumonia. The deceased was born in Madison County, Alabama, January 20, 1826, and came to Texas in 1849, settling near Jefferson, and has lived in the city since the death of her husband, and for the past 13 years have made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J.B. Whitfield. She was 81 years of age, and while frail of body, she was as strong and bright in mind as a much younger person. There are four children left to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving mother. Mrs. J. B. Whitfield and Mrs. (Sic) Eva Slaughter, this city; Mrs. Brande, Dallas; and W. W. Slaughter, Mt. Pleasant. The funeral took place from the residence of Mr. & Mrs. J.B. Whitfield, with services conducted by Rev. J. Woodson. Interment was made at Oakwood cemetery. Later reported - Mrs. Slaughter was three times married. Her first husband dying a few months after their marriage. She was married to Mr. E. C. Crutcher, October 26, 1843. Of this marriage, Mrs. J. B. Whitfield of this city, and Mrs. E. D. Brande are the only living children. She moved to Texas ion 1849 settling not far from Jefferson. In 1860 she married Mr. M. T. Slaughter, who died in 1886. Three children were the fruit of this marriage, two living, namely, W. W. Slaughter of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; Mrs. Eva Slaughter of Jefferson.
