Tuck ************************************************************************ Charlie Steffen, died in this city at the home of C. A. Schweers, August 13, 1904, from a lingering sickness and heart trouble, aged 69 years. He followed the sea during his early life and was in the quartermaster’s department when he came to Jefferson in 1866, afterwards he followed painting for a living. He was a native of Germany, but left there when about 16; has no relatives that are known. All during his last illness and for many years before, his good friend, C. A. Schweers and family, always looked after him in sickness; they were old friends in New Orleans 50 years ago. They carefully ministered to him for ten weeks of his last illness at their home, from where the funeral took place. (Jefferson Jimplecute, August 20, 1904)
