Tuck ************************************************************************ J. S. Sylvester of Jefferson, Texas, was found lying on the floor in his room with his throat cut and his arm horribly gashed. A knife, he had that evening purchased, was found laying next to him. He left the following note "Jefferson, Texas, October 1, 1858 - I am out of business, and my health is in an awful state, and I don’t think I care to live of fear losing my character, and I have no doubt that he will try to ruin me, and they (there is) no telling that J. C. will swear that I never did anything." (The Southern Intellingencer, Oct. 20, 1858)
