Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton with Van Pendergrass, officiating. Lida was born on February 4, 1932, in Muleshoe, Texas to Walter and Grace Kemp and married Elbert Carby on June 24, 1949 in Clovis, New Mexico. Mrs. Carby was a good seamstress and enjoyed taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lida had a B.A. in education and taught school in Bovina, Texas and Las Lunas, New Mexico. She worked for Levi Strauss in Clovis, New Mexico for ten years retiring in 1984. She was a Methodist. Survivors include her husband, Elbert L. Carby of Big Spring; two sons, Bruce A. Carby and wife Mae of Stanton and Gerald Carby of Clovis, New Mexico; two daughters, Edna G. Carby of Big Spring and Janice F. Carby of Clovis, New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Allan Carby and wife Yvonne of Stanton, David Carby and wife Amanda of Midland, Allison Murphree, Sam Murphree, Christopher Chase Carby, and Terry Carby all of Clovis, New Mexico and Matthew Murphree of Tucumcari, New Mexico; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Argilee Millen of Dallas, Cora Ruth Snyder of Friona and Doris Irene Parker of Muleshoe;and one brother, Walter A. Kemp of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and eight sisters. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
