It is the largest oak tree in this part of the state, covering over 8,000 sq. feet of earth. The first recorded burial is that of Benjamin J. Smith, who was killed and scalped by Indians. Later, Marion Watts was buried here. There are, also, several soldiers buried here, as well as the bones of three Indian braves who have gone to their happy hunting grounds. Submitted by Marguerite Neal Special thanks to Donald Fleming for researching these burials. SMITH, Benjamin P. Feb., 1816 Aug., 1868 WATTS, Marion June 17, 1856 Dec. 9, 1885
