SOLDIERS'  WATERHOLE BURIALS
This area has been donated to the public by Louis and Tom Moorman and the 
Moorman Ranch. 
 
During the years of 1850 -1969, 
Soldiers' Waterhole served as a natural fort for early travelers.  

U.S. soldiers under the command of Robert E. Lee used this site while traveling
the nearby military road and patrolling the area for Indians.

Westbound immigrants also camped here prior to the Civil War.

It was at this site that 27 Indians surprised and massacred 18 men, women, and
children, burned their wagons and stole their horses.

These 18 people were respectfully buried by the U.S. Cavalry Soldiers.

To reach Soldiers' Waterhole, go north from the court house in Brady until you
reach Hwy. 190 intersection.  Turn right (east) and go 4.6 miles. Turn right on
County Road 412.  You will pass the East Sweden Cemetery. Continue for 2.5 miles
on this dirt road until you reach the bridge that crosses Onion Creek.  The rock
formation fort and historical markers are on the right.

No names or dates for any of the unmarked burials.
