Exodus 21:12 The information presented here is a true record of the GILLESPIE families, copied from the Family Bible and New Testament of John Michael Gillespie and Nancy Ann Augusta (Christie) Gillespie, presented to them by John Michael's father, John Patterson Gillespie, February 19, 1861. I have only departed from the original if I thought clarity would be served, for example, adding a middle name rather than just an initial when I was certain of the fact. ABOUT THE GILLESPIE FAMILY BIBLE The notes quoted were written either by Nancy Ann (Annie) Augusta Christie Gillespie or her daughter, Louisa Augusta Gillespie, or her grandaughter, Annie Lou Elizabeth (Bess) Gillespie. The three women lived together for many years in Riesel, Texas. Bess Gillespie never married, and the other women were widowed. This Bible stayed in their possession until the death of all three ladies, after which the Bible was in the possession of Mamie Eunice Gillespie Easley, daughter of Henry Patterson Gillespie and Virgie Wilson Gillespie, and granddaughter of John Michael and Ann Christie Gillespie. A year or two before her death in 1996, Mamie Gillespie Easley passed the Bible to me, her niece, Shirley Mike Gillespie Hull. I am the daughter of Mamie's brother, Harlie Patterson Gillespie and his wife, Ethel Cervin Gillespie. It is my conviction that this treasured Bible, now approaching 140 years old, should stay in the hands of a descendent bearing the Gillespie name. Therefore, at Thanksgiving of this year - 1998 - the book will be passed to my nephew, Rev. Carter Bouldin Gillespie of Greensboro, NC, the son of my brother, Donald E. Gillespie and his wife, Isabel Edmunds Gillespie.
