Brumby of 720 North Fifteenth street has received word of the tragic death of her brother, Dr. J. C. Ralston of Houston, aged 49, who was killed in an elevator shaft in the Kress building, in that city, Monday evening. Dr. Ralston was a very prominent physician and surgeon, and was well known in Texas, especially Galveston, where he practiced for twenty years. Two years ago he moved to Houston where he remained until the time of his death. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Austin, interment talking placce in the family lot. Mrs. Ralston was well known in Waco and was here on a visit only ten days ago. DETAILS OF DEATH TIMES-HERALD SPECIAL Houston, Feb. 3^×Dr. Joseph G. Ralston, Jr. prominent Houston Physician, was crushed and almost instantly killed when he was caught in a six inch space between an elevator and the fourth floor of the Kress building on Main street. Lifeless, his body hung suspended in the elevator shaft for 45 minutes before firemen, policemen and building workers succeeded in removing it^×broken, mangled and hardly recognizable. It was the second tragedy of this kind in Houston, within three days. BROTHER NEARLY FAINTS As the doctor^Òs body was being lowered by ropes to the third floor, his brother, Dr. Wallace W. Ralston, who, dazed and almost speechless, had watched the efforts of the rescuers, put his hand to his brow in a faint, but recovered. He was too affected to speak. And Judge Leon Lusk, justice of the peace and coroner, thought as he worked, of the telephone message he had just received saying that his mother was seriously, perhaps critically, ill. Two women, witnesses of the tragedy and occupants of the car, are unknown. ELEVATOR MAN TALKS D. H. Harris, gray-haired and aged night elevator man at the Kress builing, was operating the car, and, according to his statement, had stopped at the third floor to take on the two women passengers. He said he saw the doctor coming down the hall, but thought that he would be going down, not up. As the car was about 13 inches above the third floor, and in motion, the door was still open, and it is stated that the doctor stepped in. Then the door in closing, struck him. He slipped, fell, and his outstretched arms and hands grasped the car floor as it carried him upward to death. The door closed back on him, and, crowded between the fourth floor and the floor of the elevator, life was crushed out of him before the car was stopped.
