W. Smith Burial of G. W. Smith, who died last Sunday night, took place Wednesday morning at 10:30 from the Trinity Presbyterian church, the pastor, Rev. J. J. Grier, officiating. Whipp. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Waco Times Herald July 4 1925 Only Child of Waco Parents Dies Suddenly in childress Hospital Becoming suddenly ill yessterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Cline Miller, 2 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Miller, 2519 Colcord avenue, died last night in a hospital in Childress, according to a message received last night by Mrs. S. B, Dibble. The body will be sent here for burial, arangemaents for the funeral not having yet been completed. Mr. and Mrs. Miller left last Monday for an auto tour of West texas, to visit relatives of Mrs. Miller. They have the sympathy of many friends in their great bereavement, made more poignant by reason of the fact that the little boy was their only child. -------------------------------------------------- Waco times Herald July 4 1925 Former Waco Lady Dies in Fort Worth Word has been received here of the death in Fort Worth last Wednesday of Mrs. Mary C. Martin, 61 years old, former Wacoan. She passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. J. Gray, with whom she was living. Mrs. Martin had been ill for some time. She was the widow of the late Captain E. B. Martin, and she left Waco about eight years ago, soon after his death. Mrs. Martin was known to and beloved by many here. The funeral took place in San Marcos last Thursday, Besides the sister above named, Mrs. Martin is survived by another sister, Mrs. Sid Johnson of Beeville. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Times Herald July 6 1925 Mrs. Mattie Roberts Buried Sunday At Levi Cemetery Mrs Mattie Roberts, 62 years old, died Sunday morning at 6:05, at the home of her son, B. R. Roberts of Gholson. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 4, interment being made in the cemetery at Levi where the body was taken in Compton's motor hearse. Mrs Robertts was a native of Mississippi, but had lived in McLennan county for a number of years. She was beloved and esteemed by many friends and acquaintances. Surviving Mrs. Roberts are four sons and two daughters, G. E., R. B. and W. L. Roberts, Gholson; P. W. Roberts, Bruceville; Miss Bessie Roberts, Gholson; and Mrs. F. J. Laugston, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating, the funeral of Cline Miller, 2-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Miller, who died in a Childress Hospital, last Friday night, after a very brief illness, will take place this Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The services will be conducted in the Compton's funeral home, and interment will be made in Park Lawn. Active pallbearers are: Neil denton, E. M. Wycha, Sam H. Shutt and S. B. MONDAY Funeral Stray Bullet Victim From the Home of His Parents. Funeral services for F. J. (Ferris) Megarity, 27-year-old victim of a stray shot, and who died early Sunday morning, in Colgin's hospital, took place Monday morning at 10 o'clock, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Megarity, 912 North Seventeenth street. Dr. C. H. Booth, pastor of the Austin Avenue Methodist church, and Dr. R. G. Bowars, pator of the Columbus Street Baptist church, officiated, with interment in Oakwood, where the Mason's were in charge. Active pallbearers were: Davis Hill, Hugh Clarke, C. E. Howard. Ruel Waddington, Alexander Dollins and William L. Baine. Honorary: T. E. Hubby, T. E. Hubby Jr., Sam Knight, Earl Henson, Clark Spruce, J. V. Powers, Oliver Winchell, Ethridge Woodward, W. N. Mr Megarity, who was a native Texan, was born in Corsicana, the greater part of his live having been spent in Waco. He graduated fromt the Waco High school in 1917, and was in training at Rice Institute untill the signing of the armistice. He was in the employ of Swift and company in Beaumont and Dallas for a period of 18 months, and for the last year he had been connected with the Waco Egg and Poultry company. In Waco Mr. Megarity was known to and beloved by a legion of friends and acquaintances. During his high school days he was very active in athletics, and being a high school basket ball star. He was a most earnest and consistent Christian, wilth his membership in the Austin Avenue Methodist church. He was a member of Waco lodge of Masons. Surviving Mr. Megarity, besides his wife and a 15-months-old son, Ferris, Jr., are his parents, Mr. and Mrs, J. H. Megarity; one sister and a brother, Mrs. M. N. Armstrong, and Ceabron Megarity, all of Waco. His father is manager of the local branch of Swift and company. Out-of-town relative who attended the funeral Monday were: Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Megarity, Shreveport, La; Messrs. Jack, Jess and Ad Megarity, Corsiciana; Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Megarity, Houston; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Young and children, Lois, Edgar and Albert, Jr., Corsicana; Mr. and Mrs. John C. Young, Cleburne; D. G. Wilson and family, Cleburne, and Cliff Williams, Little Rock, Ark. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Waco Times Herald Tuesday July 7 1925 Aged Wife Pioneer Methodist Pastor Is Dead At Iredell Iredell, Texas, July 7. -- Mrs Elvina Jones, 77 years old, died Sunday morning at 8 o'clock. She was the wife of Rev. W. V. Jones. They had been married 61 years. Her husband has been preaching 54 years in Texas and traveled over this county in pioneer days when the Indians were killing and stealing. He is now a superannuated preacher, M. E. Church, South. Mrs. Jones was a devoted Christian. She leaves two sons and two daughters, Will Jones and Guy Jones of Fort Worth, Mrs. Emma Goodman of Oklahoma City and Miss Stella Jones, who resides here with her father. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Waco Times Herald Thursday July 9 1925 Mrs, Laurine Garrison Died Thursday Morning Mrs Lauraine Garrison, aged 27, wife of E. S. Garrison, 928 South Seventh street, died Thursday morning at 11:45 in a local sanitarium, following an illness of only a few days. Funeral services will be from St. Mary's church in Temple Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Puckett Undertaking company had charge of the body here, and the Hewitt Undertaking company of Temple carried it to Temple in their motor hearse Thursday afternoon. Mrs Garrison had been living in Waco for the past five or six years, her husband being manager of the furniture department of the Goldstein-Migel company. She had endeared herself to many during the short time she had been a resident of Waco. Her church membership was in the Church of the Assumption, Waco. Surviving are her husband and two small boys. ages 5 and 8; her mother, Mrs. J. J. Coleman, four brothers, John Charlton, Frank, Curtis and Robert, all of Temple. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Waco Times Herald Thursday, July 9 1925 Childress Lady Dies In Waco Hospital Mrs Linnie Pierce of Childress, 40 years old, died at 1:40 Thursday morning in a local sanitarium. The funeral will take place Friday afternoon at 3, services to be conducted in Compton's funeral parlor. Interment will be made in Park Lawn. Surviving Mrs. Place are two children, two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Effie Stokes, Mrs. Ollie Stokes, Matt, George and Charles Lloyd, all of Waco. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Waco Times Herald Friday July 10 1925 Death Very Sudden for John B. Harris John B. Harris, 78 years old, died suddenly in his room at 2071/2 South Third street Thursday afternoon at 5:30. The body will be taken to Brandon in Compton's motor hearse, where the funeral will take place, services to be held in the Brandon Methodist Church Friday at 5 pm.,with the pastor, Rev. Mr. Odom, officiating. He will be buried in the Brandon cemetary. Born in Alabama, Mr. Harris had been a resident of Texas for abut 43 years, having lived in Huillsboro for 30 years before he came here 13 years ago. Surviving Mr. Harris is three sons and two daughters, John Harris and S. L. Harris, Waco; Will Harris, Los Angeles; Mrs. Nannie Pierce, Waco and Mrs Minnie Johnson, Wortham. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Waco Times Herald July 10 1925 Week's Illness Proves Fatal for Little Girl Illness of a week resulted in the death at 10;30 Thursday night in a local sanitarium of Helen Shull, 12 years old, of Joaquin, Texas. The child came to Waco on an auto trip, accompanied by her father C. W. Shull, and other relatives. The body will be sent by the Compton Undertaking company to Joaquin where ther funeral will take place Saturday.
