Sunday, June 24, 1934 Waco Times-Herald In Memoriam Mrs. Mary McMullen Killough, born in Tuskegee, Ala., March 23, 1852, came to Waco with her parents in 1872. Her young ladyhood was spent here and she soon became very active in life of the community. In her church, the Old School Presbyterian, of which she was a member from early childhood, she was active in many of its interests. She taught in the Sunday school and took part in all departments of the women's work. It was ever her joy to be of service whenever needed. In the social life of Waco at that time she was one of the leaders over a long period of years. She was a valuable worker in the various intellectual and patriotic societies of Waco. She married R. B. Killough, one of the leading merchants of the city, in 1876. They established a home here which was one of happiness and hospitality in which she lived 47 years. Of this union two children were born, Minnie M. and Robert M. Killough, both of whom were with their parents all through their lives. Mr. Killough died in 1919 and rests in Oakwood where she now rests. Strong, wise and true -- she was gentle and kind, With sterling qualities of heart and mind. "More blessed 'tis to give than to receive" Her motto was: sorrows did she oft relieve, Pity and mercy dwelt within her heart. Love in all the joys and ills of life had part; And those who knew her noble charity Feel joy is hers through all eternity. And we who loved and saw her day by day In busy throng or humbly kneel to pray Are better for her having lived on earth, And must rejoice at her heavenly birth. We pray to God to heal the hearts that bleed, Let them feel that heaven for her soul had need, That they, and we whose hearts are grieved and sore Shall meet her where sad partings are no more.
