H. Setser of Ballinger, who died in a local hospital Wednesday morning, were held from the grave at Rosemound cemetery at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Roy Smith officiating, Wilkirson-Hatch in charge. A. F. FOWLER A. F. Fowler, 81, died at the home of his daughter,Mrs. H. L. Jackoski, in Houston, Thursday at 8:30 a.m.. The body will be shipped to Waco and funeral services , Compton's in charge, will be held from the Methodist church in Bosqueville Friday at 11 a.m., Rev. A. W. Ferrell officiating, burial in Bosqueville cemetery. Mr. Fowler was born in Edinburg, Ark., and has made his home in Texas for the last 50 years. He is survived by four daughters, Mesdames Jackoski, T. E. Perry, of Auburn; Andred Hurst of Elgin and Miss Beatrice Fowler of Mexico City; two sons, W. D. FOwler of Paris and A. F. Fowler of Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. George West of Bosqueville. J. C. KELLY The body of J. C. Kelly, 1923 Jefferson Avenue, who died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday in a hospital at McAllen arrive in Waco at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Wilkirson-Hatch in charge. Mr. Kelly came to Waco from Alabama approximately 35 years ago, was in the mercantile business and still maintained his home here after interests in the Rio Grande Valley called him away for a large part of the time. He had a ranch and other property near Pharr. The exact place from which the funeral will be held and other information could not be ascertained until arrival of the Kelly family, expected Thursday afternoon. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 2, 1937 A. F. FOWLER Funeral services for A. F. Fowler, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. L. Jackoski, in Houston, Thursday at 8:30 a.m., were held from Bosqueville Methodist Church Friday at 11 a.m., Rev. A. W. Ferrell officiating, burial in Bosqueville Cemetery, Compton's in charge. MRS. ANNA DAVIDSON The body of Mrs. Anna Davidson, widow of the late W. R. Davidson, former Waco man, who died at her home in San Antonio Thursday at 3:40 p.m. were to arrive in Waco over the Katy at 4:30 p.m. Friday, and funeral services were to be held from Compton's chapel at 5 p.m. Dr. W. Anthony officiating, burial in Oakwood cemetery. Pallbearers were to be J. R. Nally, Nat Harris, Dr. Carl Lovelace, Tom Jackson, E. R. Nash Jr., W. H. Jenkins, Carter Eubank Sr., and Harry Hoffman. Surviving are a son, W. R. Davidson Jr. of San Antonio; a daughter, Miss Faye Davidson of San Antonio. Mrs. Davidson lived in Waco 30 years before moving to San Antonio with her family several years ago. J. C. KELLY Funeral services for J. C. Kelly, 1923 Jefferson Avenue, who died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday in a hospital in McAllen were held from the residence at 10 a.m. Friday, Wilkirson-Hatch in charge. Mr. Kelly was born in Huntsville, Ala., June 21, 1862. His father was George P. Kelly andhis mother was Miss Mary Connally before her marriage. Mr. Kelly had lived in Waco for the past 35 years and had traveled for a furniture company for 12 years. He was a charter member of the Autin Avenue Methodist Church and member of the Member's of the Men's Bible class were honorary pallbearers. Dr. Walter Anthony officiated at services assisted by Rev. Leslie Seymour, with burial in Oakwood cemetery. Pallbearers were George W. Barcus, J. H. Hutcherson, Frank M. Allen, J J. Stanley, H. M. Minier and J. R. Milam. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 3, 1937 LEON HYMAN Leon Hyman, native Wacoan and brother of Mrs. Louis Lipman of this city, died Friday night in New Orleans. Funeral services will be held in Waco Sunday afternoon, Rabbi Wolfe Macht officiating. Compton in charge. Futher details have not been arranged. STARR BARRETT SR. Starr Barrett Sr., 54, former resident of Waco, died at Fort William, Ontario, Canada, Friday morning, it has been learned by relatives. Among survivors are two brothers in Waco, Lew Barrett and Hiram Barrett. Another brother, H. M. Barrett, died here in January. MRS. SAM ALLEN Funeral services for Mrs. Stan Allen, 72, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Simon Brewington, in Golindo Friday at 8:10 p.m., will be held from Rosenthal Methodist church at 3 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Robert Williams, officiating, burial in Rosenthal Methodist cemetery, Wilkirson-Hatch in charge. Pallbearers will be W. D. Walker, A. C. Bickers, W. P. McBride, Plez Moore, A. J. Green, and R. E. Polley. Surviving are a son, Charles W. Allen of Satin; two daughters, Mrs. Simon Brewington of Golindo and Mrs. J. R. Jeffrey of Rosenthal; a brother, J. M. Wade of Rich Hill, Mo.; two sisters, Miss Adelia Wade of Rich Hill, Mo., and Mrs. M. D. Willsey of Seminole, Okla; three grandchildren. Mrs. Allen had been a resident of the Golindo community for the past 45 years. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 4, 1937 THORPE, SISTER MECHTILDE Sister Mechtilde Thorp of Sacred Heart academy died in a local hospital Saturday at noon. Funeral services will be held from Church of the Assumption at 9 a.m. Monday, Rev. Father J. J. Kearns, officiating, interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Compton in charge. Pallbearers will be J.E. Fee, Ed Bauerle, J. F. Reed, M. J. Hall, Les Pierrard and J.F. Simon. DANIELS, OPAL INEZ Opal Inez Daniels, 6-months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Daniels, 2029 Spring street, died in a local hospital at 3:55 p.m. Saturday. Funeral arrangements in charge of Wilkirson-Hatch are pending. Surviving besides the parents are a brother, Jack and two sisters, Helen and Peggy Ann. SMITH, CHARLES E. Funeral services for Charles Edward Smith,39, who died at his residence, 2500 Ross Avenue, Saturday at 6 a.m. were held from the grave in Rosemound cemetery at 4 p.m., Rev. A. C. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 5, 1937 ELBERT LEE RHODES Funeral services for Elbert Lee Rhodes, 44, who died Saurday at 4 p.m. at his residence, 1521 Ross Avenue, were held from Wilkirson-Hutch chapel Monday at 10:30 a.m., Rev. W. Vinsant officiating, interment was in Rosemound cemetery. PHIL W. ALLIN Phil W. Allin, 69, father of C.V. Allin, 511 North Thirtieth street, died at 8:30 o'clock Monday morning, after being ill for some time, at his home, 812 North Lancaster Street, Dallas. Funeral services will be at Cleburne Tuesday afternoon, burial in Cleburne cemetery, Dillon in charge. Surviving Mr. Allin are his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Stella Cleveland of Dallas, and his son, C.V. ALlin of Waco. SISTER M. THORP A solemn high mass of requiem, with Father J.J. Kearns as celebrant, was offered at 9 a.m. Monday at the church of the Assumption at the funeral services for Sister Mechtilde Thorp,66, who died at noon Saturday at a Waco hospital. Interment was in Holy Cross cemetery with Compton in charge. Native of Texas, born at Plantersville, Sister Mechtilde entered the novitiate of religious community at Lock Port, N.Y., at the age of 17. She was taught in all of the academics conducted by the order in Texas, being a member of the teaching staff of the Sacred Heart academy at the time of her death. Surviving are two sisters and two brothers, Misses Mary Thorp of Waco, and Annie Thorp of Plantersville; James and Michael Thorp, both of Plantersville. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 6, 1937 RICHARD CORROONE Funeral services for Richard Corroone, 76, who died at his home, 824 Sedwick Avenue at 5 p.m. Monday, were held at 8 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Assumption, Father John Kearns officiating, burial in Holy Cross cemetery, Wilkirson-Hatch in charge. Active pallbearers will be Ed Bauerle, Charles Doherty, Charles Hannum, Fred Kleypas, Miller Sappington, and W. C. Schmidt. Surviving Mr. Corroone are four children, R.E. of Galveston, H.P. of Los Angeles, W. C. of Waco; and Mrs. Edward McBride of Ingram. Mr. Corroone was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and had resided in Waco for a number of years. MRS. MARY E. LUCKETT Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Luckett, 70, 1701 Morrow Avenue, who died Sunday in Pueblo. Colo. hospital a result of an accident which occurred Thursday when she, her son, Chester Luckett of Waco, were driving to Pueblo, were held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Assumption, Father John Kearns, pastor, officiating, Interment in Holy Cross cemetery, Wilkirson-Hatch in charge. Active pallbearers will be John F. Sheehy, R.E. O'Connell, Dr. J. F. Stanislav, J.F. Simon, William Waddell and S.P. Gurney. Honorary pallbearers wil include Michael Hunt, Jules Herbelin, Ed Johnson, Hugh Kleypas, E.A. Muhl, Sam Appell, F.L.C. Greer, George Ward, Tom Webb, E.R. Nash, Sam Knight, Allen McDonald and William Baine. Mrs. Luckett's body will arrive on the Katy at Waco at 2 o'clock Tuesday morning. It will lie in state at the residence until time for the services. Born in Missouri, Mrs. Luckett was the widow of Thomas Luckett, pioneer Waco grocer. She had been a resident of this city since 1883, coming here as a young bride. She was a devout communicant of the Catholic church, prominent in all activities of the Assumption parish as a member of the Catholic Study club. Surviving are her son, two daughters, Mrs. Chester Fields, Pueble, Colo., and Mrs. W.P. Lyles of Samford; seven granddaughters, Caroline, Linda, Emma Lou Luckett all of Tulsa, Okla., Katherine, Helen and AliceLyles, Stamford; Mrs. Alton Hollis, Fort Worth, and a grandson, William T. Hollis, Fort Worth. Mrs. Luckett and her son were on route to the home of her daughter and son-in-law when the accident occurred three and one-half miles from Pueblo. One of her sons, Bruce Luckett, was killed in an automobile accident in Oklahoma in March 1934. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 7, 1937 EDWIN BARTON Funeral services for Edwin Barton, 17, former resident of Penelope, who died in Abiliene Tuesday morning, will be held at the grave in Penelope cemetery Thursday, Rev. E.J. Janek officiating. The body will arrive in West Thursday at12:50 a.m. and the funeral cortege will leave Aderhold funeral parlors at 9:30 for Penelope. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Barton of Waco, route three; three brothers, Wilton, Freddie, and Woodrow; two sisters, Jewel and Shirley. MR. AND MRS. G. LOVE Funeral services for Mrs. Glover Love, shot to death Monday night by her husband who then turned the gun on himself, according to Justice Claude Segrest's inquest verdict, were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from Compton's chapel, Rev. J.K. Roper officiating, burial in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were E.H.Young, Buckley Farris, Jesse McDaniels, Ralph Evans, Bill Copeland, and Charles Copeland. Funeral arangements for Mr. Love are pending word from his mother, who lives in Santa Monica, Calif. The bodies of the couple were discovered in the woods near South Bosque Tuesday morning. MRS. Surviving is his widow. CHARLES C. BEACH The body of Charles C. Beach, 57, former Wacoan, who died at his home in Houston, Friday morning, will arrive in Waco at 2:05 p. m, Sunday, and will be taken directly to Oakwood cemetery for services at the grave at 3 p, m., Compton's in charge. Mr. Beach had lived in Houston for the past 15 years. Mrs. ELIZABETH HAMFF Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Dunk Hamff, 94, who died at 4 p. m. Friday at the home of her son, H.F. Hamff, 2122 Herring Avenue, were held from the residence at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Leslie W. Seymour officiating. Following services, the body was taken to Grassyville near Giddings where another service will be held Sunday. Born at Hope by Hessenkastle in Germany, Mm. Hamff came as a small with her parents to America, landing at Galveston and going from there to Brenham, thence by ox wagon to what to now Giddings at which place she had lived for more than 80 years. She moved from Giddings to the home of her son in Waco in April of this year. Surviving, in addition to H.F. Hamff are the following children: Dr. C. Hamff of Emory University in Georgia, J. A. Hamff of Kingsville and Mrs. Charles Behrens of Houston. There are 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD MONDAY JULY 11, 1937 SHAW, MRS. CASSIA M. MISS CASSIA SHAW Funeral services for Mrs. Cassia Myrtle Shaw, 44, of 522 South Third street, who died in a local hospital at 9:15 p.m. Friday were held from Wilkirson-Hatch chapel Sunday at 2 p.m., Rev. A. Reilly Copeland officiating, burial in Rosemound cemetery. ALGY B. THOMAS Funeral services for Algy B. Thomas, 70, of 2106 Cumberland avenue, who did in a local hospital Sunday at 5:05 p.m. were held from Compton's chapel at 4 p.m. Monday, Rev. Tom B. Clark officiating, interment in Lone Oak Cemetery near Mart. Masonic Lodge of Mart had charge at the grave and furnished the pallbearers. Surviving are his widow; a son, Dr. H.P Thomas of San Antonio; two daughters, Miss Ruby Thomas of San Antonio and Miss Daphne Thomas of Austin; a brother, W.T. F. Thomas of Georgia. Mr. Thomas was born in Georgia and came to Texas when a young man. He resided in the Mart community for 40 years before coming to Waco about a year ago. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 14, 1937 NEGRO DROWNS NEAR LAKE DAM Roy Moore,22, Loses Life in Bosque; Second Water Victim recorded here during early summer A negro, identified as Roy Moore, age 22, was drowned in the Bosque river near Walker's crossing below Lake Waco Dam about noon Wednesday. R. B. Petty, keeper at the lake, said that several negroes who were with Moore said he drowned while in swimming. The Waco fire department rescue squad and Deputy Sheriff R.M. Brownlow were called to the scene and recovered the negro's body. One other person has drowned this summer in the Bosque. One of four Mexican youths swimming near the confluence of the Bosque and Brazos rivers disappeared in mid-stream and was dead when taken from the water. WACO TRIBUNE HERALD JULY 15, 1937 F.R. CLIFFORD Funeral arrangements for F.R. Clifford, 67, who lived at a local hotel, and who died in a hospital at 8 p.m. Wednesday, in charge of Wilkirson-Hatch, are being held up until relatives can be located. Mr. Clifford was a Cotton Belt railway employee. CHARLES W. GRAYSON Funeral services for Charles. W. Grayson, 79, who died suddenly at his home, Waco route 3, near China Spring, where he had lived for the last 43 years, Wednesday at 2:30 a.m., were held from the Bosqueville Baptist Church Thursday at 4:30 p.m., Rev. W. F. Jones officiating, assisted by Rev. Glenn Campbell, burial in Bosqueville cemetery. MRS. FANNIE ELLIOTT Funeral services for Mrs. Frances G. Elliott, mother of F. G. Elliott of Waco, who died suddenly at her home in El Paso Monday at 10 a.m., were held Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Episcopal church of Belton, where she lived many years. Rev. Everett H. Jones, rector of St Paul's Episcopal church, Waco, officiated. LOWELL E. MULLEN Funeral services for Lowell Edwin Mullen, 27, who died at his home, 514 North Twenty-Fifth street, Wednesday at 5 p.m., will be held from Wilkirson-Hatch chapel at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dr. Arthur Stout officiating, burial in Oakwood Cemetery. H. WHITWORTH Funeral services for Prof. J.H. Whitworth, 60, of 1129 North Twelfth street, who died in a local hospitalat 7:55 p.m. Tuesday, were held Thursday at 10 a.m. from Wilkirson-Hatch chapel, Rev. Tom B. Clark officiating. Brown, 57, native Texan who spent 40 years of his life as a druggist, died at his home, 1902Mitchell Avenue at 12:55 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Brown came to Waco from Killeen in January of 1918. Friday, will be held from St. Paul's Episcopal church at 5 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Everett Jones officiating, burial in Oakwood cemetery, Compton in charge. Pallbearers will be C. H. Sadler, Harrison Waite, Karl Sherman, Allan B. Alexander, J. Ed Brown, Dr. V. A. Kelley, Dr. A. Foster Smith, and Dr. H. F. Connally. Born and reared in Steubenville, Ohio, Mrs. Sinclair came to Waco 32 years ago and practiced osteopathy until 15 years ago when she retired because of ill health. She continued her interest in her profession until her death, and was an active member of the Business and Professional Women's club, the Shakespeare club, and of St. Paul's church. There are no immediate survivors. A cousin, Miss Isabelle Surratt, resides in Steubenville. She has two nieces and two nephews, and was sister-m-law of W. J. Sinclair of Waco and Mrs. N. D. Burwell of Oklahoma City.
