A Noble Man Gone

Dr. D.M. Jordan passed on after being ill about thirty days at his home. Had he
lived until April 26th he would have been 78 years of age. I am deeply grieved
as I try to write about his active life and the death of this, my friend and
doctor. He loved his great work as a physician and had been very active in his
profession here for about 50 years, and no doubt he has traveled more miles than
any mant trying to relieve patients and ease their pain and illness.  It didn't
make any difference with him about the __ the snow, which had blanketed the
earth, he went to his friends, doing his best to help them in their affliction.
He has been to our home trying to help at all hours and looked after the family
about 30 years.  The doctor seems to have had more friends and knew more people
than any man. He was a man who believed in charity and wanted to help those who
needed help. No doubt there are some who have a home through his influence and
help. When we say all we can about this good doctor the half has not been told.
 He tried to love everyone. The children all loved him for his kindness to them.
I have been with him and he would speak often about the beauty of nature given
to us by our Creator, the great and saving God. Oh, how we will miss him in our
home, in his profession. Will say he has fought a good fight, has finished the
course. He has kept the faith.

Funeral services were held at his home Thursday afternoon with Rev. J.W.
Whitefield, pastor of the Methodist church and Rev. Jones Weathers, pastor of
the Baptist church officiating.  The funeral services were attended by the
largest assembly I ever saw at a home. They were there from Waco, Temple,
Gatesville, McGregor and all over the country.

The floral offerings were gorgeous and beautiful, attesting great love for him.
I only wish I could say some word to console the bereaved family in such a time
as this. I use the words of our Christ when He was going away, and said to his
disciples, "Let not your hearts be troubled, ye believe in God, believe in me.
In my Father's home are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you."

Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, W.J. Jordan of Commerce and Dr.
D.W. Jordan of Brady; two daughters, Mrs. C.R. DeJournett of Dallas and Mrs. w.
Guy Draper of Oglesby; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Pall bearers wer Alex Baker, J.L. Caudle, J.L. Sullins, Tump Martin, Dr. Wheeler
and Geo Green.

Interment was at Moody Cemetery with Lee Undertakes in charge, there to rest
until the resurrection morn.  Oglesby Correspondent, McGregor Mirror

Widow, Malinda Lutetia Jones Jordan. She was daughter of Mary Ann Grimes and Dan
Jones.  
Daughters were: Monetta (Mrs. Draper); Mary Cigale (Mrs. Dejournett)

Children who predeceased:
Winston Roswell Jordan in 1928
Vela Belle (Mrs. Noah Graham) 1932
