Thanks, Carol WACO TIMES-HERALD May 01, 1916 SHELTON, J.H. The funeral of J.H. Shelton, aged 44, nephew of Cal Shelton of this city, took place this morning at 10 o'clock from the mortuary chapel of Undertaker L.C. Puckett, Rev. F.P. Culver officiated, and interment was made at Oakwood. The pallbearers were: John F. Wright, George Witt, Guy Harrison, D.A. Pippin Jr., J.W. Thaggard and S.H. Clinton. Mr. Shelton died Saturday night at Carlsbad, near San Angelo, where he had been for the last two years. He was reared here, but left Waco about ten years ago.WACO TIMES HERALD DECEMBER 20, 1920 SHELTON, DR. SAMUEL E. DEATH OF DR. SHELTON BRINGS SORROW TO LEGION OF FRIENDS Dr Samuel E. Shelton, aged 69, and one of the best-known physicians in the state, died Monday morning at 2:30 in his home, 312 North Eleventh Street. The exact time for the funeral has not yet been determined, but the service will probably take place Tuesday afternoon, in the event the children residing in Texas cities other than Waco are able to arrive here by that time. For some time Dr. Shelton has been a guest in his daughter's home in San Antonio, where be went believing the climate there would prove beneficial to his health, which was undermined by illness, which first made its appearance while he was in California last summer. He was brought back home last Saturday night. The death of Dr. Shelton marks the passing of one of Waco's pioneer physicians. He had been a resident of this city for about thirty years, coming here from the state of his birth, Nelson County, VA. He had been a member of the McLennan County Medical society ever since be came here, and he was prominent in the councils of the local and the state organization. Early in life Dr. Shelton achieved eminence in his profession, his skill being demonstrated here time and again. His fellow practitioners had for him the most profound regard, and the younger members of the medical profession here found in him a learned adviser, for whose opinions and conclusions they had the greatest respect Dr. Shelton was a member of the Episcopal church. The death on September 19 of Dr. Shelton's wife, Mrs. Fannie M. Shelton, was a great shock to him; from which it is said, he never fully recovered. Surviving Dr Shelton are six children, Mrs. Stewart Walker, Leander, Mrs. H J McMillan, San Antonio, George M Shelton, Dallas; Leslie Shelton, Waco; Francis Shelton, Denton, and Dr Joe H Shelton, Kingsville. Dr. Shelton also has two brothers, Leslie Shelton, who lives in Virginia, and Tom Shelton, a resident of Liberty county, Texas. WACO TIMES HERALD OCTOBER 14, 1928 SHELTON, EDWARD CAL Edward Cal Shelton, age 30, died at his residence, 1000 Columbus avenue, last night at 10:15 o'clock. Surviving him are his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Cal Shelton. He was an only child, and had no other immediate relatives. He has lived in Waco all his life. No funeral arrangements had been made at a late hour last night. The body is being held in Puckett Funeral parlors. WACO TIMES HERALD DECEMBER 13, 1928 SHELTON, LESLIE Leslie Shelton of Austin, a native of Waco, died at McKiney at 5:10 p.m. Sunday. He was the son of the late Dr. Shelton. The body will be returned to Waco for burial, but other arrangements had not been made last night. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Sallie Shelton; one daughter, Mary Ann Shelton of Austin; a brother George Shelton of Midland, and a sister, Mrs. Stewart Walker of Leander. Shelton, 47, who died Tuesday morning in Fort Worth, arrived this morning in Waco at 11:25. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment made in Oakwood cemetery. Rev. L.L. Felder officiated. Mr. Shelton is survived by three sisters, Ms. Fannie Veazy of Fort Worth, Mrs. Jennie Sammon of Waco, Mrs. B.W. Aynesworth of Marlin, and also by three nieces, Mrs. Robert I Janes of Fort Worth, Mrs. W.M. DeShields of Waco and Mrs. W.D. Milner of Waco. Pallbearers were J.W. Haggard, Dr. W.G. Trice, James Wright, W.D. Milner, D. Pippin and Will Shelton. WACO TIMES-HERALD OCTOBER 19, 1936 SHELTON, CAL Funeral services for Cal Shelton, 80, resident of Waco for over 70 years, who died at his residence, 1000 Columbus avenue at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, were held from Compton's chapel at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Dr. Walter Anthony officiating, interment in Oakwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Will Shelton, Tom Abbott, Barrington Shelton, Shelton Gillam, Shelton Ainsworth, Roy Abbott, and Charles Sammon. Honorary pallbearers were W.W. Woodsen, Robert B. Dupree, D. Pippin, John Pippin, Allie Thomas, W.M. Sleeper, Jimmie Anderson, Dr. W.O. Wilkes,Dr. I. E. Colgin, Dr. J.R. Gillam of Mart, Sam Clinton, George Wallace and Wilson Stanford. Surviving are the following nephews and nieces, W.P. Shelton of Mart, R.L. Abbott of Waxahachie, Mrs. Frank Hanson of Dalton, Mrs. J.E. Peters of Waco, Mrs. Fannie Vessey of Waco, Mrs. Sadie Ainsworth of Marlin. Mr. Shelton was born in Lincoln County, Missouri, June 22, 1856. He came to Waco when 10 years of age and had resided here ever since that time. He had been a member of the Austin Avenue Methodist church for 65 years and was a director of the First National Bank. WACO TIMES HERALD AUGUST 18, 1941 SHELTON, FRANCIS E. (SKEET) SKEET SHELTON LAID IN GRAVE Funeral Services for Former Wacoan, Long Resident of Denton, Are Held Here at 5 P. M. Monday Funeral services for Francis E. (Skeet) Shelton, 44, son of the late Dr. and Mrs. S. E. Shelton of Waco, who died at his home in Denton Sunday morning, were held at Denton Sunday afternoon at Episcopal church, and second services were held at Clark's drawing room in Waco at 5 p. m. Monday, Rev. F. P. Goddard of Marlin officiating, burial in Oakwood cemetery. The Survivors Surviving Mr. Shelton are his widow, who was Miss Katherine Fitzhugh, sister of Champe Fitzhugh; three sons, Eugene and Joe of Denton and Everett of the United States Navy; two brothers, George M. of Midland and J. L. (Leslie) of Canandaigua, N.Y., two sisters, Mrs. R. J. McMillan of San Antonio and Mrs. Stuart Walker of Leander.
