Grimes Born Mar 23, 1848 Died Oct 18, 1869 (North side) Thomas F. Grimes Born Nov 14, 1843 Died Oct 18, 1869 Additional Comments: Brothers returning from a cattle drive, celebrating Tom's approaching wedding to Mollie Dean. He had just purchased wedding suit and ring. Had a few drinks, and rode around the courthouse shooting their guns in the air and headed out of town. The Union men under the direction of Capt Lovejoy (City Marshall) pursued them, and when they refused to surrender to them, Thomas was shot. Henry went back to help his brother, and he was also shot. Family lived in Coryell County and had to be notified, and came in to Waco, the next day to recover the bodies. Not sure why they were buried in Waco instead of nearer their home.
