All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/txfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Rob Perkins rperkins@stx.rr.com January 19, 2008, 4:53 pm Washington Co Texas Oct the 7th 1863 Dear wife and children I embrace the preasant opportunity to drop you a few lines to let you know that I am well and where I am we are campt near the Brasos river in Washington Co we have campt here the three last nights and have traveld every day as soon as we get fairly underway the order is countermanded we are first travling backwards and then forwards we are now orderd to Houston and will start tomorrow morning everything has gone on well since we started we drew some cloathes at Miligan I drew a shirt pair of draws and a cap and blanket the blanket is good but the rest verry indifferent as you will see as I sent the shirt draws ??? coverlid back to Portsulivan by Mr Ward to be left at Martains store so that you can get them I do not know where we will go from that will depend upon sircumstances I told Tom to higher some of Hargroves negroes the morning I left home if Ben writes to me he has bought the land in Davis you must send the money by the man that comes after old Jims money I suppose he will come himself or send Jim you must give the shoes that I sent back to Jack and do what you think best with the balance I wish you to be in a great horry with my cloathes as winter is coming and if I donot get them soon I may not have the chance the moast of the men have there winter cloathes with them and soam of them beautiful jeans and well made Mr Easterwood is coming on soon and will bring on all the cloathes that is ready at the time he starts he promised me to bring mine do not know when I can come home but as soon as I can you must not answer this until you receive another letter from me I will write again as soon as can find ware youcan direct a letter so that I can get it I have nothing more to write at preasant ciss the children for me and be assured that you and they are uppermost in y mind so goodby for the preasant W.P.
