Furlough
To all whom it may concern

The bearer here of WP Perkins private of Capt LH McNelly company of scouts Gen 
Whartons corp aged 42 years 5 feet 8 inches high complexion eyes blue dark hair 
and by profession a farmer ??? and enlisted at Galveston, Texas in the year of 
1864 the first day of Feb 1864 to serve for the war is hear by permitted to go 
to Milam county he having received a furlough from the 15 day of June to the 15 
day of July at which period he will rejoin his company wherever it then may or 
be considered a deserter Given under my hand at camp in Rapperd (?) parish byou 
bluff this the 15 day of June 1864

Additional Comments:
Rapperd parish (hard to read) is actually Rapides parish, Louisiana where 
McNelly's Company of Scouts was camped after participating in action at 
Mansfield, Brashear city and Pleasant hill(?). Walker served in this company 
with his brother Tom Perkins. Tom and Walker transferred over to this newly 
formed company in Galveston on Feb. 1, 1864. I don't have the original (a 
relative does). My copy is not good. Of course this is L.H. McNelly the famous 
Texas Ranger. Walker did not have a high opinion of him. He thought he was 
arrogant.

There is an extension on the back so that he appears to have been on leave 3-4 
months.
