John Franklin was short and wounded at San Angelo. Dr. Graves was waylaid, robbed and badly beaten at Flatonia, Fayette Co. 10-year old daughter of Chas. Pickering was burned to death at Paris. The body of J. B. Hansom was found on his father's farm near Elgin, Bastrop Co. pierced by two bullets. Fred Bedica cut John Ocker's back and ear near Brenham. Harry Kent, a railroad man, fell from a freight car near Belden, Morris Co., mashing his left leg, necessitating an amputation. 14-year old daughter of J. A. Deitz was burned & died near Clarksville, Red River Co. F____ Jones stabbed and killed Geo. Latham near Lindam, Cass Co. Stevenson, Mrs. Grundy Smithe, L. W. Williams. Early Tuesday morning, Mr. H. F. Inglehart's horse was discovered charging all over the horse lot as though it was mad. It broke through the fend and into the residence yard. It then broke into the house, going in through a bedroom window. Furniture in the house was upset and torn to pieces. Finally, the animal left the house and roamed about. Mr. Inglehart was sent for and as soon as he arrived, he shot the horse, breaking its neck. Co. A, Camp Ben McCulloch, Ex-Confederate Veterans held their annual meeting at the courthouse last Saturday night and elected the following new officers: D. Kemp, captain; J. J. Irwin, first lieutenant; W. M. Gill, second lieutenant; H. F. Iglehart, orderly sergeant; W. A. Nabours, color bearer and Tom peoples, quartermaster. Mo Kemp was elected sponsor. Article: Some citizens in Milam Co. near the Lee Co. line adopted an ingenious method of protecting themselves from the reported recent small-pox outbreak at Taylor. They displayed yellow flags from their residence to convey the impression that small-pox existed on the premises thus preventing visits. The quarantine authorities at Rockdale learned of this and employed Elwood Thomas to take the flags down. Article: W. B. Ruffin, the colored county commissioner, representing the Eagle Lake precinct of Colorado Co. has been indicted by the Grand Jury for accepting a bribe in the matter of appointing a cotton weigher. He failed to make bond and was placed in jail. Kaufman Sun reports that Mr. McDonald has been charged with selling whisky in a local option precinct. McDonald did not reside in the precinct, but had sold the whisky over the telephone and shipped it c.o.d. by rail. Judge Morrow held that the goods ceased to belong to consignor [McDonald] as soon as they were delivered to the railroad company, and the c.o.d. bill was merely a lien upon them. Baker found a petrified child's leg and foot near Lometa, Lampasas Co. J. W. Johnson shot and killed Dr. B. F. Buckner at Sealy, Austin Co. In Dallas, Dr. Wm. King was sentenced to 5-years imprisonment for abortion. J. D. Rhodes shot and killed R. A. Rutherford at Alum Creek, Bastrop Co. E. F. Edwards' store at Roan's Prairie, Grimes Co., was burglarized. While driving cattle 12-miles north of Giddings, W. L. York fell from his horse, breaking one of his legs. Judge Kilgore of Texas has been sworn in as a Judge in the Ardmore, I.T. Fred Naddo was struck by lighting and killed while plowing in his field near Clear Creek, Galveston Co. Johnnie Mofford of Matagorda Co. rode into a barbed wire fence and he died 4-days later from the injuries. Corsicana Daily News was recently launched by its editor, Geo. T. Murry. Mrs. Tom Harris of Palestine, severely scalded her baby in a partly filled tub. 4-year old daughter of J. G. Bennett of Dublin, Erath Co., was fatally burned from a fire where her mother was making soap. Mina Neshring, age 20 was burned and died when her clothes caught from a trash fire on Brushy Creek near Taylor. W. M. Hanney, conductor on the Houston & Texas Central was robbed of a new suit of clothes at Fort Worth. Patents have been granted to the following Texans: John A. Freeze, assignor of ¼ to K. H. Baird of Mason for composition of matter; Robert Prior of Rusk for a fence post; Walter W. Wainwright of Palestine for a furnace. Article: A Great Issue M. Lasker was elected to succeed Miles Crowled in the state senate. Gen. Longstreet has written a letter stating he will attend the reunion at Houston. The King's daughters will meet at Mrs. J. D. Hefley's on Friday at 4 o'clock. Ida Dorroh's 3rd-grade class had a picnic in McLane's pasture last Saturday. Eld. Tom Smith will preach at the Christian Church on Sunday. Dr. G. A. Stovall has purchased the C. H. Ruby residence. Bob White stabbed John Morgan in the head in Davilla. The blade of the pocketknife broke off in Morgan's skull and its removal was a difficult operation. Maj. J. B. Moore had an accident last week. While out in the yard where carpenters were erecting a chicken house, a puff of wind blew down some timbers, striking him in the back, fracturing a rib. Hubbert Hefley, son of Mr. & Mrs. J. H. Hefley, died last Saturday night at the family residence. The remains were interred in the city cemetery on Monday afternoon. Article: Waco May Floral Carnival, letter dated Apr. 15, 1895 to J. D. Womack, A. J. Lewis from Sam Sanger. Article: W. W. Chambers was in Waco and met with City Marshal Wyser of Calvert. They retired to the Palmo Hotel where later that night Mrs. Wyser called on Chambers, saying her husband was dying. When he reached Wyser, he was dead of heart failure. Chambers returned home via Temple where he saw one man shoot another on the street. The man shooting was trying to escape, but was arrested by City Marshall Taylor. Article: Santa Fe train derailed in Milam County reports Constable Peel of Milano who was aboard the train. Several men removed a rail in an attempt to rob the train. Sheriff Bickett took dogs down to the track but couldn't strike a trail. Article: The Committee appointed by President Fields, of the County Farmers' Institute met related to building a broom factory in Cameron. W. A. Nabors was elected chairman, discussion was by: Jas. Hood Camp will soon put a monument on the Capitol grounds in Austin. Tommie Toms was shot and killed by a negro in Brenham. A white man and a black man escape from the Crockett jail. J. W. Johnston shot and killed Dr. B. F. Buckner at Sealy, Austin, Co. Ground broken for a new courthouse at Bay City, Matagorda Co. A negro fell from a freight train at Chriesman, Burleson Co., breaking his leg. Judge T. R. Brenan died at the resident of J. O. Douglas near Tanglewood, Lee Co. Sam Felder had his face shot-off by Brown Drake at Brenham. Felix Longeria was stabbed to death by another Mexican near Runge, Karnes Co. E. Reuterla was cut in the face by A. Coronado at Laredo. Joe Thurderville had his hand mashed off while working in the Santa Fe Yard at Temple. W. S. Exon was convicted of rape in San Antonio and sent to the penitentiary for 20 years. Alex. Thomson was shot five times and killed by an unknown assailant in San Augustine. Charley Jones, colored, was convicted of murder in Nacogdoches and sent to the penitentiary for 99 years. Hurricane hit Sherman. The 8-year old son of Mr. Lyman accidentally killed his 10-year old brother with a target rifle. Wrightsborro, Gonzales Co., now has telephone service. Robert, the 9-year old son of R. S. Holcomb of San Antonio drowned. Richard Burleson was hung on the 12th inst. for the murder of J. G. McKinnon at Groesbeeck, Limestone Co. The Patriot, the people's party paper suspended at Navasota, has reappeared with W. G. Howard as editor. James Morris was killed by a falling tree in Village Millis, Hardin Co. James Durst was bitten by a rattlesnake while hunting near Spofford, Val Verde Co. Seven indictments for forgery were preferred against H. P. Brughard in Fort Worth. Gus Morgan was shot and killed by a man who escaped at Madisonville, Madison Co. A negro was lynched and his body perforated with bullets for an assault upon a respectable lady at Corsicana. Mr. Lasker was elected to the Galveston District state senate seat caused by the resignation of Miles Crowley. Mrs. J. G. McPherson had a 10-pound boy during a wind and hailstorm at Heidenhimer, Bell Co. The ticket office of the M. K. & T. Railroad was robbed at the Geneva Station, McLennan Co. Gus Moreland and Chas. Harlan had a shot-out at Ennis in which Harlan and a bystander, Moore received what may be fatal wounds. Dr. S. M. Wilson of Texarkana, died on Sunday morning last. Harry Walz was convicted of smuggling at El Paso. J. W. Johnson shot and killed Dr. B. F. Buckner at Sealy, Austin Co. John Gregory, Sr. shot and killed John Rowsey near Greenville. Web Flanaga is on trial in El Paso for assisting A. G. Dawson in smuggling 20,000 sheep. Mrs. Sam Kasper was run over and killed by a run-away team on Red Hollow, a few miles west of Giddings. E. J. Faust, ex-assistant postmaster at Thorndale was found guilty in federal court at Waco of embezzling. Sud West of Laurel, Newton Co., killed two bears and wounded a third on Big Cypress, near Laurel. Chin Goon, a Christian Chinaman and Lillie A. Grey were married at Corsicana. Col. H. B. Andrews died in San Antonio on Sunday last. The residence of Wm. Lum near Jacksonville, Cherokee Co. was destroyed by fire. Maj. J. B. Quinn of the U.S. Engineering Corps is making a tour of Texas harbors. J. T. Vestal, a barber at Sherman, took poison and died. Mr. Thurston of Mount Vernon, Franklin Co. measures 7-feet, 7½-inches The 3-year old daughter of P. Pearcy of Weatherford was accidentally shot and killed by the 9-year old son of Mrs. Melton, while playing with a rifle. Lycrugus McCracken was shot and killed while plowing his field near Union Valley, Wilson Co. by unknown ambushers. Fred A. Miller, civil engineer, filed suit against Mayor Etmendorf of San Antonio for slander and defamation of character. The 3-year old son of Frank Rusk of Elmo, Kaufman Co., was kicked by a mule, shattering his forehead and nasal bone into pieces. Dick Reeves shot and killed Ben Langford at Austin. The 4-year old son of Mr. & Mrs. George Brown of Stockdale, Wilson Co., was burned to death when his cloths were ignited from a fire in the yard. Wm. Rook, keeper of the lion Parnell recently exhibited in New Laredo, was bitten by the lion and died of blood poisoning. Patents granted to: G. Butler, Corsicana, typewriting machine; A. J.
