From Ben Arnold: Ike Looney has a first class steam cotton gin. Mr. Stuart from Gause has recently moved to town. Mr. Cuddle, postmaster and druggist, is doing a thriving business. Mr. Threat, grocery merchant is doing a profitable business. Dr. Midkiff has a large and lucrative practice. Mr. Sapp, the railroad agent, is without superior. Article: Link Line - Preparing to Extend the Link Line into Austin. Article: Monetary Statistics. Deputy Sheriff Chas. Courts was assassinated at Chaneyville, a Houston suburb last Saturday night. It is believed a negro did the shooting. Holmes, the murderer, has been refused a new trial, and it is probably the day will be set soon for him to hang. Locals: L. H. Tenney, a jeweler, is at J. F. Thompson's. Dr. Thomas A. Pope is having his home converted into a 2-story. W. D. Paden, Bright Baldridge and S. S. McLaney, jury commissioners, are at work this week selecting jurors for the spring term. Maj. E. M. Bean has accepted a position with J. S. Hefley. In the Dist. Court last week, Geo. Locke was acquitted of murder. He was indicted jointly with Theo. Horstmann and Mack Griffin for killing Mr. Vickers at Ad Hall. The King's Daughters were entertained at Mr. Gill's with music by Mrs. Bauknight, recitations by Mrs. J. D. Hefley and Miss Houghton; reading by Miss Thomas. Mrs. Eugenia I. Robinson, mother of Postmaster Robinson, died at the family residence last Tuesday night, after an illness of some weeks. The funeral services conducted by Rev. John M. Locals: Capt. Wolf finished his county round this week. Annie May, daughter of Willard May of Calvert was buried at Walker's Creek on Nov. 27th. (torn and wrinkled section) Mr. Carothers is building a house for a grocery store at the Sap Depot. Mr. & Mrs. E. Sanders has the sad misfortune to lose their baby boy last Tuesday night. Dr. Pope gave all possible medical attention. Rev. Geo. A. LeClere and Henry Ruby visited Brenham. R. T. Cooper says that Branchville will build a nice church this fall. Dist. Court closed for the term and Judge Talliaferro left for home. City Marshal Batte says that shooting fire crackers inside one's own yard is in violation of the city law. Presiding Elder E. H. Harmon and Rev. W. Wimberly were found guilty of the charges made against them and they were expelled from the church and ministry. The Milam News has moved from the McCord Building to the Banister stand and changed its name to The Texas Broncho with Mr. Buck and Mr. Moore, publishers. On Thursday of last week, Will Rhodes died very suddenly at the home of his parents in Ad Hall. His sister, Mrs. John Hamilton was the only person at home at the time of his death. His remains were interred at North Elm Church with Dr. J. C. Womack conducting the services. About a month ago, C. A. Dawson was arrested on Sunday in Cameron in compliance with a telegram to Sheriff Bickett from the Sheriff of Dallas Co. on the charge of embezzlement. He was taken to Dallas where he made bail. On Dec. 2nd, the following special from Dallas appeared in the daily papers: "C. A. Dawson and G. H. Price were lodged in the Dallas Co. jail today on an indictment returned by the grand jury on last Saturday night charging them with arson. They are accused of burning the cotton gin of Flem Bledsoe, at Lancaster, about 30-days ago. Dawson is also under indictment of embezzling about $1,000 cotton sale money from the firm of Bledsoe & White." Notice to Shareholders of the Trinity, Cameron & Western Railroad Co. by D. H. Committed Suicide - James Wilson, a Canadian about 35-years old, brick mason. He came to Cameron about 3-weeks ago with about $40. Last Friday night, he went to J. Fred Thompson's drug store and purchased 30 grains of morphine. His hotel room was at the old Cosby Hotel on the east of the square, near Wohileb's gin. Saturday morning, he was found to be dead. Justice English held the inquest. Wilson took the entire 30 grains. (Article contains a detail account of the incident.) Article: A Cougar - Appears in the Yarrellton area and turns out to be a "dumb bull" made and manipulated by Ben Ellis. It was a mechanical contrivance made out of a beer keg. McKelvan and Frank Henry have been indicted by the federal grand jury for robbing the McGregor Bank. Austin's municipal election resulted in favor of Louis Hancock for mayor. From the Georgetown Sun, Sheriff Purl went to Granger Tuesday night and levied an attachment on the ties and the only engine of the Link Line Railroad at the instance of the Reliance Lumber Co. of Beaumont, TX who has instituted a lawsuit.
