Cheatham Jr., 76, of Cameron were held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. James E. Lafferty officiating. Burial followed in Cook Walden/Capital Park Cemetery in Pflugerville. He died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 in a Temple hospital. Mr. Cheatham was born July 8, 1924 in Madison County to Edgar Louis and Merttie Mae Lindley Cheatham. He married Nell Sorenson June 17, 1961. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired as a millwright from Alcoa in Rockdale. Mr. Cheatham was a member of the Battetown Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacons. Mr. Cheatham was a member of the Cameron Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2010, American Legion Edwin Hardy Post #9 and the Cameron Evening Lions Club. He had served with the Civil Conservation Corporation. He volunteered delivery of meals to the elderly for Hill Country Services. Mr. Cheatham was preceded in death by son Jack Allen Konopackie; granddaughter Lisa Lovell and nephew Wayne Ercanbrack. Surviving are: Wife, Nell Cheatham, Cameron; son, Rev. Tim Cheatham, Cameron; daughter, Sherry Nell Lovell, Freeport; brother, Julius Cheatham, Bastrop; sister, Mary Etta Ercanbrack, Lake Jackson and three grandchildren.
