Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Family visitation was held Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Monroe, retired owner and operator of Berniece’s Dress Shop was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Cameron to Hilry H. and Beulah Stiles Stedman. She was a 1940 graduate of C.H. Yoe High School and had attended Baylor University and University of Texas. She married Dana Monroe on June 15, 1944. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cameron, a past school board member, a member of the Ladies Golf Association, a member of the Three Arts Club and she served on the board of directors for the Cameron Country Club. Monroe had also been recognized as a past citizen of the year. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dick Stedman; and sister, Mary Jo Stroup. Monroe is survived by her husband, Dana Monroe of Cameron; daughter, Jane Monroe of Cameron; sons, Danny Monroe of Trinity and Mark Monroe of Cameron; sister, Jane S. David of Houston; and four grandchildren.
