Oslick, 80, of San Gabriel died Feb. 1, 2003 in a Taylor hospital. The Rev. Robert Wimp and Ray Barron officiated at his funeral Feb. 3 with burial following in the Taylor City Cemetery. Oslick was born May 27, 1922 in San Antonio the son of Alphonse and Lestie (Holubec) Oslick. His family moved to the San Gabriel area where he graduated from San Gabriel School and remained the rest of his life. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He was a member of the Air Corps 80th Troop Squadron and was crew chief of a C-47 troop carrier. He proudly served his country in England and France before being honorably discharged in 1945. On Jan. 24, 1947, he married the former Gussie Rieger. He worked at Alcoa Rockdale Operations in Rockdale for 28 years at the same time he farmed and ranched in San Gabriel. He was a member of San Gabriel Christian Church and the Thorndale Veterans of Foreign Wars. Oslick loved farming, hunting, fishing and tending his huge vegetable garden. His family said he was a wonderful husband and father and a loving "Papa" to his four grandchildren. He and his wife loved watching their grandchidlren participate in all sports at Thorndale schools. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Gussie Oslick of San Gabriel; sons Doug Oslick and wife Renee of Thorndale and Gary Oslick and wife Jackie of San Gariel; grandchilden Dustin Oslick of Austin, Shannon Oslick of College Station, Jill Oslick of Huntsville and Tara Oslick of San Gabriel; and brother T.J. Oslick and wife Gene of Taylor. Memorials may be given to the San Gabriel Christian Church or the charity of choice. Serving as pallbearers at his funeral were Jim Oslick, Kirk Baird, Joey Shillings, Russell and Brady Kolenovsky and Gary Northcott. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Scott, Oscar Theis, Clarence Marx and Billy Schultz.
