All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/txfiles.htm ************************************************ WILHITE, Mamie Mar 28, 2001 Funeral services for Mamie Wilhite, 93, were held Saturday, March 31, 2001 in the Tanglewood Baptist Church in Tanglewood with Rev. Joe Stevenson and Mr. Elmo Wilhite officiating. Burial followed in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood. She died March 28 at her home in Tanglewood. Mrs. Wilhite had been a Tanglewood resident for 85 years. She was born Dec. 27, 1907 in Springhill, LA to the late James Otis Johnson and Emma McNeal Stricklin. Mrs. Wilhite and Lonnie Dewey Wilhite were married in 1925 in Tanglewood. She had been a housewife in addition to helping her family in the fields and all things needed in farm life, having been raised on the farm. Her husband preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1969 and also three brothers, Larkin, Milard and Woody Brooks Johnson. Survivors are two sons, Elmo Wilhite and wife Ruth Ann of Tanglewood and L.D. "Rusty" Wilhite and wife Ann of Rockdale; two daughters, Belle Matlock of Rusk and Dorothy Crowder and husband Jerry of Tacoma, WA; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Melvin Matlock, Donald Matlock, John Crowder, Shawn Bostic, Heath Neidig, Major Neidig, Brandon Copeland and Trenton Copeland.
