George Long came in and McNelly had him arrested. He adds that McNelly thinks himself a "great man" and is very "overbearing". He had McNelly sign a tranfer to Bawdusis (sp?) regiment but that regiment was dismounted and he was not allowed to transfer to the infantry (presumably due to either his age or physical condition). McNelly then signed a transfer so Walker could go to Earlye's Company. It has been very rainy and several times he has had water flowing into his tent. He talks about the condition of his horse. They drill twice daily. He states that General Wharton got killed yesterday morning by Baylor and that the reason had to do with so many units being dismounted... 10-12 regiments have been dismounted since he has been in camp. McNellys and Terrye's company were drawn out in line of battle and he fell in with Terrye's company for two days before he got back to his own and calls Terrye's company the best he has been with since the start of the war. Jones and Grantham were with Terrye's company and noted that they tried to get Elkins to go back to the army but he would not. They feel sorry for his family. Grantham told Walker that he was sorry he said anything to John Blacklock and they were both down on the deserters from their neighborhood. He states that he heard Jack Snow is doing well. He apologizes for the condition of this letter and states he is sitting on the ground writing it on his saddlebags.
