JONES The State of Tennessee Madison County On this the 3rd day of July 1874, came before me the undersigned Clerk of said County Court in and for Said County, Timothy P. Jones aged 60 years with whom I am personally acquainted and whom I certify to be respectable and credible, who being duly sworn according to law declare that he is the identical Timothy P. Jones who was in the service during the war of Texas Independence in the year 1835 and 1836. That he first went into the service at San Antone in December 1835 in a company organized under the command of Capt. David Thomas. That the company was known as the Mustang Company. That after the company was organized the volunteers were ordered from San Antone to Goliad in command of Col. Grant on his way to attack Matamor__ at Goliad. We found Genl. Sam Houston who ordered us back and by virtue of state order the Mustang Company was somewhat disorganized and partially disbanded after having been led in service as foresaid for more than thirty days. I myself with others went on from Goliad to Nacogdoches and while we were at Nacogdoches news reached there that Genl. Santa Anna had in Vadese Texas. We immediately raised a company of about 40 or 50 men in command of Calvin Henderson as Capt. and myself as Lieutenant. The command was ordered to Washington on the Brazos River. Upon our arrival at Washington, Capt. Henderson with his company was ordered by Genl. Rusk, Sec. of War to take charge of the ferry accross the river at Washington and to put across the river all of the people west of the Brazos. After remaining there for sometime, we were ordered to go to Harrisburgh at which place was the Seat of Government at that time and upon the breaking up or dispersment of the Government at that time Capt. Henderson Company was discharged in March 1836 as order of Genl. Rusk-Sec. of War. applicant further states that his discharge was handed some years ago to one Willis N. Arnold who it is said filed them at Austin Texas. Since which time affiant has not seen and cannot now produce them but offer to them as evidence of his service at aforesaid. He make this application and statement for the purpose of obtaining the benefits of the act of the Legislature of the 27 of April 1874.
