Henry Henley, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Henley, mail carrier, who died in action in Italy in November 1943. The Abilene Reporter News Abilene, Taylor County, Texas Sunday, January 23, 1944 COLORADO CITY, Jan. 22 The Purple Heart posthmously awarded their only son has been received by Mr. and Mrs. George J. Henley of Loraine, Pfc. Henry C. Henley, 26, their son, was killed in action in Italy 6 November 1943 and the medal reached his parents this week. Though he was born in Weatherford, he was a Mitchell countyian most of his life. He grew up and attended school in Loraine. At the time he entered military service he was working as a butcher in a grocery market at Sterling City and went from there to Camp Wolters. Attached to the 135 Infantry he was sent to foreign duty first landing in Ireland, then in England in September 1942. He fought through the North African and the Sicilian campaigns and entered Italy with the Allied invasion forces. The exact place of his death and burial have not been learned by Mr. and Mrs. Henley.
