From the public square, take FM 677 North to the intersection of North Cheek Street. The cemetery is on the south side of the road, at this intersection. The State of Texas placed a marker at this location in 1994. The marker reads as follows: Head of Elm Cemetery This Cemetery is the oldest of Three graveyards established in Saint Jo. Local tradition claims that area settlers Enoch Willett, his daughter Mary, James Box, Aaron Anderson, and James Harris were killed in indian raids nearby and buried here in the 1860's. First recorded burial was that of infant Charlie Wyatt in 1877. Accounts by early residents in this area indicate Head of Elm Cemetery was at one time much larger, than the few remaining gravestones suggest. Buried on this hillside are early pioneers of the area and their descendants. This is a complete survey of all markers on 09 May 2004.
