L. S. ABERNATHY, Rev. J. W. BRICE, Rev. W. R. CHANDLER. Mrs. Matthews Entertains On Friday eve last, Mrs. J. H. MATTHEWS entertained the O.F.F. Club, the occasion being a shower party for MISS ANNA LOVELACE. Attending were MRS. W. T. PENN, president, MISSES IDA and LURA MOORE, ZULA and SALLIE LEWIS, BEULAH and FANNIE LOVELACE, FRANCES and EMMA CUMMINS, MYRTLE PERRTY, BAURA / LAURA WATKINS, MYRTLE YOUNG, MATTIE NORVELLE and GERTIE FRIEDLY. Saturday night religious program: JEANETTE ALBERT, MISS ANNA TRIMBLE, MISS MABEL BELLOWS, MRS. ALBERT, MISS SINA TUCKER, JOHN JNEKINS, BETH TRIMBLE, ESPER FOSTER, PAULINE ALBERT, MRS. POTTER, MISS EUNICE HARVY, SPICY TUCKER. CADY-LOVELACE ROBERT CADY and MISS ANNA LOVELACE were united in the holy bonds of matrimony at the residence of the bride’s mother in this city, Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. by Rev. R. G. MOODY, using the beautiful Episcopalian service. After a light repast, the couple left for Fort Worth and Graham. They will be at home after next Wednesday at their house purchased from J. H. MATHEWS. Deaths The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. HOLDER died here Friday and was buried in the city cemetery. HUGH GRIMES, age 17, at died at the home of (unreadable) near Lindale Monday of typhoid fever and was buried Tuesday in the Lindale cemetery. Sunset Siftings. Rev. G. W. WHISLER was here from Fruitland. MRS. W. R HAWKINS’ children from Oklahoma have been at Alvord visiting this week. HERBERT KIRKPATRICK visited at Alvord. B. P. HALL was at Alvord. R. M. MORGAN accepted a position with W.S. GREEN. NOEL JONES in on the sick list. WILLIAM COSWELL is progressing with the addition to his house. Rev. R. W. STANFIELD went to Rhome on business. MRS. N. F. STRICKLAND has been visiting at Bowie. MOSE KIEREE / PIERCE(?) came in from Bowie. MRS. MAZIE MCDONALD, wife of CASH MCDONALD, died Monday. She was very old, having lived on Denton Creek a long time. G. W. POWELL went to Fort Worth. M. D. HARDIN was sick. Mr. STONE moved here from Park Springs and will occupy the BRYSON residence. The Park Springs schoolhouse burned Monday night. Mr. CABLE of Saint Jo attended the debate here. MISS MODENA HOLBROOK and MRS. SCHOOLFIELD visited near Denver. MISS EDITH LANE was here from Turkey Creek. TOM NEAL was at Bowie. DR. J. W. HARVEY and MRS. SIMMONS were married at Fort Worth last Sunday. MISS EUNICE HARVEY visited them while they were at Fort Worth. S. M. TRIPLETT, TUCK PERRYMAN, and H. F. SCHOOLFIELD came in from Waco where they attended the grand lodge. The WELCH-YOUNG debate was pulled off here last week with quite a crowd in attendance. DR. S. T. JAMES was here from Park Springs. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. COLE were here in Montague. MISS NELLIE YAGER / YEAGER began teaching at the school at Pleasant Ridge this week. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. A. NORTHUM returned from Oklahoma. DOCK WATSON of Stoneburg attended the debate here. Oak Hill People are most through picking cotton and talking of what they are going to do at Christmas. Some of the girls say they are going to have a war dance. MISS RHODA JOHNSON says she has learned the steps and will teach the other girls. The singing at J. S. CARLILE’S Sunday night was well attended. MISS EMMA COX of Rush Springs, I. T. is here to visit her cousin MISS ANNIE COX. Mr. and Mrs. D. D. WILSON visited the home of NEWT YOWELL. MRS. J. S. CARLILE went to Sugden and Ryan in Indian Territory to visit relatives. DOCK JERRELL’S family visited at BOB COX’X Sunday. MR. CLARK and MR. HARRIS went to Montague to trade horses. CHARLIE CARLILE also took a fine horse for which he wanted to trade a span of mules. LOUIS JOHNSON is home from Uz. MRS. CHAMBERS entertained the young folks at her home Friday. Most of the boys went to Montague Monday as it was trade day. Rev. PAT LANCASTER preached at Harmony and Sunday. He will next preach at Oak Hill. C. W. MILLS went to Eastland County. MRS. BAKER, PETE JARRELL and wife are visiting in Clay County. Rev. W. W. MARTIN will preach here Sunday evening. MISSES ROSA and FANNIE BROWN visited ANNIE COX. F. R. SANDEFER’S family visited D. D. WILSON’S family. JOHN GOLDEN will soon leave to visit his parents in Kentucky. CHARLIE GENTRY of Lucky was here. Mr. MONKES / MONKRIES(?) of Ringgold was here. We are glad to learn that MRS. J. H. ROBINSON was in Monday. He is contemplating making a trip during Christmas. Woodland Warbles REV. W. A. MORRIS filled his regular appointment here. HUGH MCCLELLAN left for Corsicana to visit relatives. T. NABOURS is now teaching at Dixie. He spent Saturday and Sunday here. FRANK COOK from Salona visited his father. The Woodland singing class had their regular meeting Sunday afternoon with leaders W. R. NABOURS and PITT COOK. Mr. KELLEY and Mr. RILES visited at Centralia. J. R. PRICE is attending Showalter’s Normal at Bowie. W. T. TAYLOR, who has been instrumental in furthering musical interests here, is attending A. J. Showalter’s Normal. G. E. ALDREDGE and J. H. WALKER sold the BALDWIN on Belknap to A. C. DIXON and Mr. ALDREDGE also sold his interests in the W. E. DAVIS tract of land. W. B. NABOURS was in the Territory. MRS. EFFIE COLLINS of the Dixie community visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. NABOURS. Woodland has a fine school with superintendent T. T. ALLEN. BERRY PRICE and BEDFORD HENLY are attending school at Montague. J. S NAIL is warden of the county farm for another year. Newport News JOHN BARKER and WALTER REIGER, who recently moved from here to Fisher County, returned to get the rest of the household plunder and about 1000 pounds of meat they raised here. Mr. Barker was in high spirits about the future prospects in his new country. DUDLEY BOWDEN and MISS NORA LINDSEY were married on the streets of Newport Sunday afternoon. They both reside in the Liberty community. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. WAGNER and daughter NORA of Vashti were here Sunday. PROF. GRAY went to Henrietta. Rev. W. WALKER bought a farm at Vashti and will move there from Bellevue. Esquire MCDONALD is improving his residence. T. B. WOOD of Vashti was here. We are sorry to report that A. A. WOOD is very sick. The committed appointed some time ago on program and arrangements for the Christmas tree has selected “Tidings of Great Joy,” a beautiful and appropriate service. She said “We could not get along without the dear old Blade. It is just like getting a long letter from our old home to read the Stoneburg and Brushy Mound Items.” MRS. MINNIE MENDENHALL, age 18, wife of W. M. MENDENHALL, died at the home of her father-in-law Z. MENDENHALL at Branch Wednesday from consumption and was buried yesterday. Husband and little child survive. J. P. CARR, a highly respected citizen of Bowie, died at his home in the east part of town Monday and was buried at the Adora graveyard. He had been a resident of Bowie 5 or 6 years, having come here from Henrietta, where he resided 10 or 15 years. He was 78 years of age. Five grown children survive him. H. CARRIT from Belknap, near Montague, was over and called, got on our premium list. He reports that much property is changing hands in that neighborhood. JACK BUTTS of Sedalia, Missouri is visiting the family of his uncle F. O. SKELTON. MISS DAISY LINGLE and brother GEORGE left for Clinton, Missouri after a pleasant visit with relatives here. Rev. FRANK LEAKE united in marriage J. B. GIBSON and MRS. L. GRIMES of Lindale at his residence here Tuesday. Mrs. ROUSE and little daughter GEORGIA from Vinita, I. T. are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. B. CLEVELAND. Mr. Rouse is expected here next week. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. MATTHEWS moved into their handsome new house next door to T. C. PHILLIPS. Mr. and Mrs. ROBERT CADY returned and will have quarters with MRS. ATCHISON until their home is fitted up. Mr. and Mrs. ALEX SMITH have a new son, born Dec. 11. Mr. and Mrs. WILLARD DYER have a new daughter born Dec. 13. W. P. COLE had the misfortune to lose a good horse. DR. J. L. VOWELL returned from a trip over the Territory. MISS PEARL DOBKINS is visiting J. E. WIDLAKE’S family. MRS. W. H. HUMPHREY died Saturday. She was 65 years of age and had been in bad health for some time. She had been a resident of Sunset for a number of years, having come here from Kentucky. She was buried here Monday. MRS. BOB ARCHER was here from the Territory to attend to her mother Mrs. Humphrey. TOM HUMPHREY was here. J. V. HUDDLESTON was in Bowie on business. Mr. STONE moved here from Park Springs. ST.JOHN sold his farm to THOMAS STODDARD and moved to the JOSEPH TOPLEY place near Denver where Mr. Stoddard now lives. Mr. TIPTON was here from Parks Springs. JAMES CASSELL rented the HOSILEY place and move there. Mr. PENNINGTON was looking for his brother who recently came from Missouri and expects to make this his home. At the home of A. W. YOUNG on Sunday, Dec. 13, MISS MOLLIE CULP and WESLEY HARVEY were married. They will live on the Mrs. CULP place for the next year. MISS ELLA HARVEY is here from Arkansas to spend Christmas. MRS. L. C. FANNING, sister of E. T. A. NORTHUM, is visiting from Arkansas. MRS. NETTIE HUDSON and little daughter are visiting here. Mr. ROBERTS is building a house on the place he recently purchased from CHARLIE DENNY. WATSON left for Saint Jo. Newport News A large and appreciative audience greeted Rev. T. P. MILLER at church last Sunday. D. A. C. WILSON, who is organizing the Farmers Educational and Co-operative union, was here and met with the order. ELMO MCDOW, CECIL CLEVELAND and JOE THOMPSON went to Beaver Co., Oklahoma and each filed on 160 acres of land. MRS. W. C. WOOD visited her daughter Mrs. Dr. BARTON. GRANDMA GUTHRIE of Crafton is here to visit. At a singing last Sunday, five miles west of here at J. W. LEMON’S, a boy named JONES stabbed a boy named HENDRICK in the back with a knife. The Hendrick boy went home and Dr. SWEARINGEN was summoned and took nine stitches in the wound. Both boys are very small and about 12 years of age. At the residence of the bride’s parents Wednesday evening, WILL BRANTLY and MISS IDA EZELL were united in marriage by Rev. CHINNIS. They reside about 7 miles west of here in the Antioch community. Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE WHITE have a new daughter born Dec. 12. Mr. and Mrs. BILL GAUFF have a new daughter born Dec. 7.
