J. H. MCCUISTION in this city, Sunday evening August 11, JAMES FILLPOT and MISS MINNIE PADDICK were married. The couple are from the Lone Star community. HEN PADDICK and MISS ELZADA IONE(?) and T. G. MEDDOR and MISS NELLIE FILLPOT made the drive with them. Mrs. McCuistion served cake and all had a pleasant time. The first bale of new cotton was marketed in Bowie last Saturday, raised by J. F. MAHON of near Newport, weighed 434 pounds. C. R MORGAN purchased it. A premium of $16.75 was given to Mr. Mahon. Soon after the first bale, Mr. RIGGS, who lives near Bowie, brought in the second bale of 464 pounds and he got $10 premium. The third bale was brought in G. W. WISE, who lives near the KNOX THOMAS gin, a premium of $6.72; this bale was purchased by R. M. BURNETT. Officer Killed As a result of a fight with desperadoes six miles north of Jacksboro, G. M. LEFTWICH was killed last Sunday evening. Sheriff MADDOX and three deputies including LEFTWICH had gone to capture them. The men escaped. $1000 reward is offered for one of the men and the other is wanted in several places. The scene of the killing is a mountainous country and offers every opportunity for the desperadoes to escape. JOHN Q. CROW opened a new steam laundry on Mason Street. He purchased the Bowie Home Laundry from E. F. BRANDENBURG who will represent Mr. Crow on the street. QUISENBERRY’S Transfer Co. Saint Jo from the Tribune Mr. and Mrs. D. C. BERRY have a new son born Saturday, August 3. MRS. J. C. PARSONS and sister MISS MINNIE JOPLING visited their sister MRS. JOHN A. CAGLE and returned home to Whitewright. D. Y. LUNN moved his Nickel Store to Montague this week and will open a stock of groceries. We regret to lose this excellent family. J. C. SHORT brought to town form his farm last Saturday an Irish potato through which a root of Johnston grass had grown. This is the second potato of this kind that has been exhibited here the past three weeks. Friday afternoon, Aug. 2, MRS. CYNTHIA VAUGHN, in her 78th year last May, died at the home of her son N. M. VAUGHN four miles north of Saint Jo. Her remains were interred in the Fairview cemetery Saturday afternoon. Elders T. C. COOK and N. FIELD conducted the funeral. C. T. MORGAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. MORGAN, who live 3 miles north of Saint Jo, and MISS ANNIE COLLINS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. K. COLLINS, who live on the JOE ALDREDGE farm three miles northwest of town, drove to Montague Tuesday, Aug. 6, and were quietly married, county judge W. W. COOK performing the ceremony. These are deserving young people who are highly respected by their acquaintances. Local Items RUBEN DUTY of Henrietta was accidentally killed by his horse falling on him Monday of last week. Comfortable rockers for little money at STILLWELL & Sons. MCDANIEL says business is picking up again. He sold ten wagons and eight buggies. MRS. J. F. MOORE returned to her home at Bowie after spending a week with relatives here. From the Wise County Messenger. JEFF LILES(?) was arrested by Sheriff GEORGE on the FIRESTONE place where he was digging a well and lodged in jail. He is wanted in Palo Pinto County for seduction and Sheriff HINMAN of that county took charge of him yesterday. From the Henrietta Independent.. L. B. CURD left Saturday for Gainesville on the Denver. He has been manager here of the Waples Painter Lumber Co. and our people regret to see him leave. S. F. ROSS will succeed him. J. F. STOCKMAN has our thanks for fine Elberta peaches from his orchard one northwest of town.
