WOOD of WOOD Dry Goods store had business in Dallas. Capt. and Mrs. A. I. DAVIES Jr. and daughter CAROLYN of Weatherford visited his mother MRS. A. I. DAVIES. He leaves Fort Wolters for a new assignment at Fort Benning, Georgia. DORIS PHILLIPS, GRETA WOOLSEY, NADINE ORBISON, and HUBERT VASSAR will be employed as fabrication workers at the Consolidated plant at Fort Worth. HENRY T. AYRES, manager of DAUBE & Co. store, and MRS. WAYNE GOLDEN visited Ardmore, Oklahoma. MRS. J. F ENSMINGER of Sweetwater is visiting her brother J.A. BRANDON. At the theater: “Two Weeks to Live” and “Thundering Hoofs.” Mr. and Mrs. H. A. CRITTENDON and daughter INEZ, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. KING and son CLYDE, all of Fort Worth, and Mr. and Mrs. F. F. CADY of Jacksboro were guests of MRS. A. I. DAVIES. MISS JERRY DYER visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.T. DYER at McAlester, Oklahoma. JOHN DIXON of Austin is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. DIXON, while waitng his call for armed forces. Rev. and Mrs. KIRK M. BEARD and MISS MARTHA ANN GIBSON attended a conference for Methodist Church workers at Gainesville. NAOMI PERRYMAN and SARAH GRIFFIN, both of Foreestburg, will be fabrication workers at the Consolidated plant at Fort Worth. E. L. COVEY of the Bowie Drug Store had business at Fort Worth. WILLIS HEARD left to resume his studies at the Texas Tech in Lubbock while awating call for the armed forces. Lt. SELWYN A. WILLIS left for Columbia, South Carolina after spending ten days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. ARTHUR WILLIS of Bowie, and his sisters and their families, MRS. M. E. HANKINS of Nocona and MRS. E. L. DRURY of Wichita Falls and other relatives. MRS. LOIS RICHMOND and baby visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. NEELD, as they are en route to Texas City from Wichita Falls where the baby had medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. ELLIOTT of Montague shopped in Bowie. MRS. M. M. SPRUILL, MRS. L.R. RHYNE, and MRS. LEE HOPKINS of Sunset shopped in Bowie. CLIFFORD HARGRAVES of the Rock Hill vicinity had business here. Mr. and Mrs. OCIE TURNER and children of Wichita Falls visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. M. TURNER. MRS. HARLEY SWANN and MRS.JACK HEUGATTER of Fruitland shopped in Bowie. Mr. and Mrs. ALVIN ST JOHN and MRS. CHARLIE LAUDERDALE of Sunset vicinity were here on business. Mr. and Mrs. WALTER WINTON of the Denver community shopped in town. MRS. RENTZ ROBERTSON and children recently visited relatives in Wichita Falls, their former home town. RICHARDSON and MRS. D. H. RHODES from south of Sunset were here on business. RENTZ ROBERTSON, employed in Wichita Falls, visited his wife and children here. MRS. Rev. and Mrs. HARRIS and two children of Salona were guests of Mr. and Mrs. MACK WILSON at their Bowie home. J. P. RICHARDSON of Vernon spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. S. M. MEEK and Mr. and Mrs. T.J. MCDANIEL while attending the Primitive Baptist Church. W. N. STREETMAN of Sunset had business in Bowie. JOHN MILLER of Lake Valley had business here. Mr. and Mrs. F. B. MCDANIEL, MRS. LOU TAYLOR, Mr. and Mrs. S.M. MEEK, JACK AGEE, and WALTER NAIL were in Sunset to attend Monday to attend the funeral of MRS. J. W. CRAFT. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. DENNISON of Park Springs were in Bowie. N. W. TAGE of Okmulgee, Oklahoma visited his mother MRS. ANNA TAGE and other relatives. GROVER WISDOM of Dallas had business here. Staff Sgt. KENNETH REID of the Army Air Corps was chatting with friends in Bowie. He arrived from San Antonio on a furlough to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. N. REID and other relatives southeast of Sunset. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. HARDY and Mr. and Mrs. S.L. THOMAS of Sunset had business here. W. E. HUTCHINS, teacher in the West Academy public school near Chico, was here on business. Mr. and Mrs. JIM BUIE of Sunset were shopping here. Mr. and Mrs. JEWEL DYER of Lake Valley were in Bowie shopping. Private JAMES WINN of Camp Howze, Gaineville was in the vicinity visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. WINN. Mr. and Mrs. CHARLES MCDONALD of the DEAN DALE vicinity, near Wichita Falls, visited relatives here. He is a teacher in the Dean Dale school. W. F. ROBERTSON of Sunset was in Bowie on business. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. HUDDLESTON of the Dewey vicinity were in town on business. MRS. HUGH LEWIS was at Sunset to visit her brother BEN NEECE and family. Mr. and Mrs. JOHN LEE and Mr. and Mrs. OLIVER FAULKNER of Lake Valley wree here on business. MISS RACHEL REYNOLDS of Huddleston visited relatives in the Bowie vicinity. Lt. Roy Scales Rites Funeral services were held at the Bowie City Auditorium Tuesday afternoon, May 4, for Lt. ROY E. SCALES Jr., 19, who was killed in a plane crash at Miami Beach, Florida, Thursday of last week. Rev. A. J. QUINN of the Bowie First Baptist Church, had charge of the religious rites and Ensign M. E. WINTERS of the Naval Air Force, a personal friend, made a brief talk. The song service was by the high school chorus and others under the leadership of IKE PARKS with MRS. WILL YOUNG as piano accompanist. A duet was sung by IKE PARKS and DOC JACKSON. Burial rites took place at the Elmwood cemetery, arranged by Owens and Brumley Funeral Home. Pallbearers were A. D. WHET, PAUL TANAFER, GEORGE RUCKER, HAVE RATLIFF, HERSHEL STEPHENS and JOHNNIE HIGHTOWER. Roy came from Electra to Bowie with his parents in 1938. He graduated with the class of 1942 and enlisted for services in May 1943, accepted for service in June, received his first training at Dallas Base. He received his wings at the end of seven months from his entry into service. He was among the top twenty percent of the Marine Corps. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. ROY B. SCALES, who moved from Bowie to Bridgeport three months ago; three sisters NANCY LOU and AMELIA SCALES of Bridgeport and MRS. H. DALL COOPER of El Centro, California; three brothers KENNETH and DANIEL LEE SCALES of Bridgeport and Corporal DAVID SCALES of Camp Cook, California.
