MARGARET GREEN, wife of J. P. GREEN, died at her home on Clear Creek six miles south of town Tuesday night, Dec. 31, 1907. She was in her 69th year at the time of death. Her funeral took place at the Antioch Church New Year’s Day and interment in the Antioch cemetery. She was the aunt of MRS. GEORGE ROGERS and the grandmother of W. D. BALL’S wife, both of this city. MRS. GEORGE LETSON of Coalgate, Oklahoma is her only surviving daughter. J. I. GREEN of Phillip, Oklahoma and W. P. GREEN of Gladys are her surviving sons. Deceased was a native of Alabama where she and Mr. Green were married 48 years ago. They came from Alabama to this part of Texas Dec. 9, 1881. Mrs. Green was consistent member of the M. E. Church South since her 20th year. Captain W. W. WALKER The funeral of Capt. W. S. WALKER, notice of whose death and interment was in last’s week Tribune, was held the afternoon of Christmas Day and was largely attended, for the Captain had lived here almost 30 years and was a model citizen and kind neighbor. Religious services at the home and the grave were conducted by Rev. A. W. REED, the deceased’s pastor and friends for many years. WILLIAM SAMUEL WALKER was born at Lily Pond, Gordon Co., Georgia (complete state name torn off), September 26, 1837. (sentence about his father incomplete) At the age of 16, he started to make his way in this world, and as with many another American boy in the same circumstances, he found it roughed but helpful in bringing out what is best in young manhood. He was married in December 23, 1856 to MISS MARIA FRANCES SWAIN, who survives him. At the beginning of the Civil War, he was a country school teacher, but resigned to accept the position as 2nd Lieutenant in Co. G. 21st Georgia regiment. He was accidentally wounded shortly after his entrance into the Confederate army and was compelled to return home for six months furlough. At the end of this period, he was found still unfit for service and resigned his commission. Late in 1862, having recovered sufficiently from his wound, he joined Captain NEAL’S Co., 40th Georgia regiment. Besides numerous minor engagements, he fought at Murphreesboro and Vicksburg, wounded in the right arm. This wound troubled him for the remainder of his life. He went through the terrible campaign of 1864 from Dalton to Atlanta, then in 1865 returned home. Captain Walker came to Montague County direct from his native state in 1876, arriving in Saint Jo December 2, 1876. He located on a farm on Clear Creek soon after his coming. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church since 1869 when he joined in Georgia. He was a member of the Saint Jo Masonic lodge and a democrat…Besides his aged wife, he is survived by three sons and three daughters. One daughter died many years ago. She was the wife of H. B. OTIS, who was one of the pioneer teachers of Montague County. The three surviving sons are W. J., S. N., and E. L. WALKER who reside here, MRS. ELLA STANTON, wife of E.M. STANTON of Atlanta, Georgia, MRS. LIZZIE BELLAH, wife of J. A. BELLAH of Bowie, and MAGGIE WALKER. In Memory Bowie Cross Timbers DR. M. H.
