M. LAUDERDALE of this city, and GEORGE WRIGHT, son of MRS. ANN E. WRIGHT of Benjamin. Rev. PAUL THOMPSON read the marriage service which took place in the home of the bride’s parents. (long description of the wedding) Announcement Tea Given in Graham Graham, May 2: The engagement and approaching marriage of MISS LEOLA TACKETT of Saint Jo and BRUCE H. SCOTT of Tyler was announced Saturday afternoon at a beautifully appointed tea given by MRS. B. L. KIRTLEY in her home at Shawnee. The hostess and honoree and the latter’s mother, MRS. J. P. TACKETT greeted the guests. MISS BILLIE MAE TACKETT, sister of the bride-to-be, and MRS. JACK STELL of Weatherford ushered the guests to the room where MRS. H. D. FIELDS Jr. of Saint Jo presided at the punch bowl and MISS RAYNELLE PERKINS, cousin of Miss Tackett, served cake. Two Saint Jo People Assist at Leazer Open House in Gainesville MRS. C. F. MORGAN of Saint Jo was an assistant hostess at a two day Open House in the LEAZER Funeral Home celebrating their first anniversary in Gainesville. Mrs. Morgan is a niece of Mrs. Leazer. WELDON BERRY of this city, freshman at Gainesville Junior College, was on the program for several vocal solos. Pioneer Citizen of Dye Mound Died Wednesday JOSEPH S. SAMPLES Funeral services were held for JOE SAMPLES, 82, on Thursday afternoon in the Church of Christ at Dye Mound with Elder JOHN RAYMOND officiating. Interment was in Dye Mound cemetery arranged by Scott Bros. of Saint Jo. Mr. Samples died in his home in Dye Mound Wednesday, May 10 following an illness of several months. Survivors include his wife, the former MISS MARY GANN, to whom he was married more than 50 years; three daughters MRS. C. A. WADE of Norman, Oklahoma, MRS. SARAH GREENROID of Wichita Falls, MRS. “TOTS” CASH of Saint Jo; two sons, BUCK SAMPLES of Saint Jo and HERNY SAMPLES of Cement, Oklahoma; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. JOSEPH SAMUEL SAMPLES, known as Uncle Joe, was born Feb. 2, 1857. He had lived in and near Saint Jo for more than 50 years, well known and liked by his many friends in this town and northern Montague County. FRED L. MAPLES Funeral services for FRED L. MAPLES, 46, were held Monday afternoon in the Assembly of God Church with Rev. JOHN NOTHALF, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Perryman cemetery at Forestburg, arranged by E. N. Dunbar. Mr. Maples died at his home on West Howell Street Sunday, May 7, 1939 after an illness of several weeks. Survivors include his wife, two daughters RUTH and NETTIE and one son, WILLIE DEE all of Saint Jo; three sisters MRS. OLLIE GENTRY of Frederick, Oklahoma, MRS. NANNIE HORNSBY of Ladonia and MRS. LENA SNOW of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma; three brothers, D. L. MAPLES of Dye Mound, W. P. MAPLES of Solomon Springs, Arkansas (Siloam Springs?), and CHARLES M. MAPLES of Oklahoma. Fred Maples, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. M. MAPLES, was born August 29, 1892 at Bonham, Texas. He married MISS CARRIE GENTRY at Denver, December 14, 1915 and the family lived in Forestburg until about a year ago when they came to Saint Jo. Flower girls at the funeral were MARGARET MOORE, JOYCE THOMPSON, MAXINE WOODS and BESSIE WILSON. Pall bearers were H. I. DENNIS, LOIS GENTRY, CHARLES STEVENS, CLARENCE GANN, W. C. EVANS and G. L. GENTRY. Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral services were G. L. GENTRY of Frederick, Oklahoma, LOIS GENTRY of Snyder, Oklahoma, ROY GENTRY of Forestburg, RMS. DOVIE OLIVER of Bowie and MRS. NETTIE GENTRY of Tipton, Oklahoma. Unity Club Is Entertained In her home on South Brock, MRS. J. L. MCGREGOR received members of the Unity Club. MRS. R. H. ALDRIEDGE, a charter member of the organization, will be leaving soon to join her husband at Handley, and was surprised with a dishtowel shower. They were presented by MRS. FRED MEADOR, club president. The club presented Mrs. Aldriedge with a beautiful luncheon cloth. Refreshments were served to Mesdames LUKE GRANT, J. LAUDERDALE, GERTRUDE MITCHELL, MEADOR, S. M. LAUDERDALE, K. R. DORT, R. T. BUCK, J. M. FLEMMING, WALTER HOOVER, S. M. ROACH, D. D. GRIFFIN, MISSES LILLIE CHANCEY, ISLA BELLAH, and four guests Mesdames SAM J. PEDIGO, J. C. HOLMES, J. H. EMBRY and GEORGE R. PEDIGO. Prominent Citizen of Saint Jo Dies WILLIAM ANDERSON HARRIS With the passing of WILLIAM ANDERSON HARRIS, 73, on Friday, May 5, Saint Jo lost one of her most honored best loved citizens. Mr. Harris died in the family home, corner of Williams and Line Street, following an illness of several months. Funeral services were conducted in the home on Saturday afternoon with Rev. EARL J. PATTON of the Whaley Memorial Church in Gainesville, officiating. Masonic services were conducted at the grave by FRED HOLLAND and S. C. PEDIGO. Active pall bearers were ISAAC DONNELL, LUKE GRANT, JOHN MOSS, CLAUDE COOK, P. E. REDMAN, S. C. ROACH and S. T. MEADOR. Interment, arranged by Scott Bros, was in the Mountain Park cemetery beside his wife who died in 1934. Survivors include three daughters, MISS DOLLY HARRIS and MRS. CARROL J. SNEED of Saint Jo and MISS KATE HARRIS, R. N. of Phillipi, West Virginia; three sons, CHARLEY HARRIS of Gainesville, BILL GRANT HARRIS of Cucuta, Columbia, South American and JOE HARRIS of Saint Jo; three grandchildren, PRENTISS HARRIS of Gainesville and MARY and PATRICIA SNEED of Saint JO. Mr. Harris was born in Cooke County near TYLER Bluff April 25, 1866. He was married to MISS ADA RANDALL July 10, 1892. The Harris family lived on the home place in Tyler Bluff community until some ten years ago, when they moved to his town and made it their home. Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. GILES and son JEROME and O. N. NORRIS of Denison; Mr. and Mr. HAMET LIGON of Trenton; Mr. and Mrs. ARTHUR KINGERY and Mr. and Mrs. HERMAN WATERS of Ada, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. LOUIS T. HOLLAND of Montague; Mr. and Mrs. R. B. HEAD and family, Mrs. J. J. HENDRICKS, Mrs. CHARLES PRIDDY, Jr.; MISS MARY DAVIS, MISS BILLIE FLENOR and MISS DOROTHY MCDANIEL all of Gainesville.
