HOOVER Funeral services were held in the Hoover home, down on Elm, some five miles east of Saint Jo, for WARD F. HOOVER, 50, who died in the Legion Hospital near Kerrville on the morning of May 16, after an illness of several months, with Elder JOHN T. LAUDERDALE officiating. Interment, arranged by Scott Bros., was in the Summerfield Cemetery. The American flag, which draped the casket of Mr. Hoover, a veteran of the World Ear, was removed, folded and presented to his brother, TOM HOOVER, by two of his army buddies, B. W. WATTS and GILBERT HOLMAN of Gainesville. Pall bearers were six nephews, BILL HOOVER of Saint Jo, FIELD GRANT HOOVER and CLINTON HOOVER of Ada, Oklahoma, THOMAS HUNTER of Paris, JOHN WHITSON of Wichita Falls and HERMAN WATERS of Ada, Oklahoma. Mr. Hoover was born February 2, 1889 at the Hoover homestead east of the city and had made his home there throughout his lifetime. He joined the United States Army in 1917, trained at San Antonio and was a member of the Co. B 359 Infantry of 9th Division. He was in service over seas for several months. Survivors are two brothers, TOM HOOVER and CHARLEY HOOVER both of Saint Jo, five nephews and five nieces. Out of town relatives here for the funeral include Mr. and Mrs. BILL ROSSOM and MRS. PARKER STEUDHAM of Forestburg, Mr. and Mrs. HERMAN WATERS, Mr. and Mrs. F. G. HOOVER and CLINTON HOOVER of Ada, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. TOM HUNTER of Paris; Mr. and Mrs. JOHN WHITSON of Wichita Falls; Mr. and Mrs. ROY WILSON and children, MRS. JIMMIE BROWN, MRS. JOHN DURHAM of Gainesville; Mr. and Mrs. CLARENCE WILSON of Muenster and MRS. MARY GREEN of Longview. Places in Mile Race in District and State CLYDE W. YETTER, Jr., eldest son of Dr. and Mrs. CLYDE W. YETTER Sr. of Saint Jo and who is a freshman at Paris Junior College, won second place in the mile race in the district conference for junior colleges and third for the state conference held at Waco. Forestburg Cemetery Association Organized The Forestburg people organized to receive donations and look after the cemetery. Seventh Birthday MARY JANELLE KLINE, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. KLINE, celebrated her seventh birthday. A picnic supper was followed by a line party at the Texas Theatre to see a Shirley Temple movie. 30 Years Ago in the Tribune MISS LILLIE DESPAIN announced that she would begin her summer music class June 1. MRS. ERWIN JOHNSON, who has been visiting her parents in Mill Creek, Oklahoma, returned home, accompanied by her brother JESSE DUNCAN. TOM PURYEAR is arranging to pen up a new stock of hardware and implements in the building recently occupied by WRIGHT Brothers who sold their stock to WALSH Hardware Co. of Sherman. CLAUDE ADAMS of Crowell spent a couple of days here greeting old time friends and visiting his parents, Rev. and Mrs. R. A. ADAMS. J. W. CARMICHAEL and JOE COURSEY took in the big fireworks display at Gainesville. MISS PAULINE BELLAH visited her friend MISS RHUE CROXTON of Nocona. J. H. EMBRY, son of J. C. EMBRY who resides two miles east of town, took to the train for the Summer Normal at Bowie. MRS. GEORGE ROGERS left to visit her brother at Ravenna, Fannin County and relatives at Sherman. Popular Young Couple Weds One of the most interesting social events of the season to the people of Frederick was the marriage of BEN A. HUBBARD to MISS EFFIE DEY PHILLIPS which occurred Wednesday evening in the county judge’s office. Miss Phillips is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. PHILLIPS and came to this city about a year from Saint Jo, Texas. She is a young lady of rare attainments, lovable in disposition and charming in person. Mr. Hubbard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. HUBBARD and one of Frederick’s popular young men. He is manager of the Hubbard Hardware and Implement Store. From the Frederick Oklahoma Leader. The bride was reared from infancy to womanhood in Saint Jo. Mountain View Rev. SLAGLE, pastor of the Bonita Methodist Church, was a Sunday guest in the home of J. L. SNAPP. MISS ADIS TALLEY spent Sunday with MISS JEWELL HODGE. TONY MARTIN, ALTUS STEVENS, DOCK JONES and MERRITT LOUGH were Sunday guests of DOYLE, MELVIN and WAYNE MARTIN. Mr. and Mrs. ALLEN PEMBROKE and sons spent Sunday with her mother MRS. LOUIS DICKERSON. MISS OUIDA APPLE of Bonita visited MISS DOROTHY MADDOX. MRS. J. R. MARTIN returned from visiting her son F. L. MARTIN in Bethany, Oklahoma. MISS ESSIE L. HURLEY was a guest of MISS IMOGENE HOLLARS in Bonita. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. TALLEY visited Mr. and Mrs. W. M. TALLEY. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. REED drove to Waurika, Oklahoma to visit her mother MRS. L. V. LANGFORD. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. REED and family were in Henrietta to visit PETE GRIMES and family.
