All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ****************************************************** The Saint Jo Tribune Saint Jo, Montague County, Texas Friday, June 9, 1939 MISS MARY FRANCES WILEY of Wichita Falls Is Married From the Wichita Falls Times June 4 Simplicity was the keynote of the impressive ceremony uniting MISS MARY FRANCES WILEY and GUY BEARD Jr. Friday evening at the parsonage of the First Methodist Church with Rev. EARL HOGGARD, assistant pastor, reading the vows. Mrs. Beard is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. WILEY and is well known in school and social groups, a graduate of Wichita Falls high school and Hardin Junior College. Mr. Beard also attended high school and Junior College and is a graduate of Texas University. MRS. WILLIAM KELLY Funeral services were heldfor MRS. MARTHA MATILDA KELLY, 89, wife of WILLIAM KELLY, on Monday afternoon in the Methodist Church in Rosston. MRS. DONIA ELLIOTT of Burkburnett conducted the services and was assisted by Rev. GEORGE MITCHELL of Forestburg. Mrs. Kelly died Sunday, June 4, in her home in Rosston after an illness of several months duration. Pallbearers, all grandsons, were LYNN SETTLES, RAY KELLY, A. P. PENTON, and LOWELL PENTON. Mrs. Kelly was born in Illinois on August 11, 1849. She came to Texas and to the Rosston community when a young girl of 15 years and has resided in or near the same time most of her life. She has been a member of the Nazarene Church for many years. Survivors include two daughters, MRS. GEORGE YARBROUGH of Sunset and MRS. DELIA TOTTY, who was living with her mother at the time of death, a stepdaughter MRS. PRICE PENTON of Forestburg and a stepson WILL KELLY of Forestburg, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Former Saint Jo Boy Makes Good ROBERT LEE MOORE, son of MRS. MAUDE MOORE and the late Dr. CLARENCE MOORE, who was reared in Saint Jo and who is now living in Denton, a freshman at the N.T.S.T.C., passed through town enroute to Wichita Falls. He was accompanied by VAN GENE SKILES also Denton and they were carrying with them a Dixon-primary glider built by Moore when he was a high school student living at Gainesville and which they entered in the Glider Meet in Wichita Falls. ROY JACKSON of Denton injured his hand while attempting to land the Dixon-primary, after he hit a 18 mph ground wind. The glider was not damaged seriously and was later flown by young Moore and Skiles. 30 Years Ago in the Tribune G. W. BROWN and wife went to visit relatives at Gainesville. MRS. GIP MAY and little son JOE returned from a visit with J. H. CALHOUN and wife at Gainesville. DR. H. N. WILSON, who has been to Memphis, Texas on business, returned to his home at Dye Mound. G. W. HOOVER left Friday to join a company of his old Confederate comrades at Fort Worth and then go the national convention at Memphis, Tenn. G. C. DAVIS and wife were in Gainesville. W. F. BURNS was here from Bulcher. HOMER LATHAM finished his first year as a student in the law department of the state university in Austin. J. T. CRUMP returned from Kansas City where he took a carload of cattle. MRS. S. M. KING, after a short visit with her brother S. C. PEDIGO and family, returned home to Gainesville. M. O. CHILDRESS left for Durant, Oklahoma for a short visit then will return to Denton to attend the Summer Normal. MISS MATTIE ANTRIM of Nocona visited MISS LIZZIE CARMICHAEL. The Texine Medicine Company moved into their new store and are ready to meet their friends and customers at the same old stand where the fire put them out of business about two months ago. ROBERT HUGHES, who has been with the Gainesville Register for quite awhile, bought half interest in the Tribune-Progress at Mountain View, Oklahoma. He moved his family to Mountain View Wednesday. Mr. Hughes is an experienced man in the printing business. A pair of specs with gold plated rims were left at my store about two weeks. Owner can get them by calling at store. GEORGE ROGERS MISS JESSIE WALKER went to visit her aunt MRS. J. A. BELLAH at Bowie. MRS. BILL CRUMP left Wednesday to visit her mother MRS. ZULA HIGGINBOTHAM. Scott-Tackett Graham, Texas, June 2 A beautiful ceremony with simple dignity was that performed at 10 a.m. Thursday morning uniting in marriage MISS LOLA TACKETT of this city and BRUCE HOOVER SCOTT of Saint Jo. Rev. E. W. BRIDGES of the First Methodist Church read the vows in the presence of a large group of friends. (long description of service, apparel, etc.). Attending from Saint Jo were Mr. Scott’s father, W. E. SCOTT, his sister MISS RUTH SCOTT and brothers W. L. and W. E. SCOTT Jr. and their wives.
