He is a brother of MRS. R. T. BOYD of this city: CAPTAIN JIM WORLEY, the grand old man of Central fire station laid out his bunker and rubber boots for the last time last Friday. When the day shift came on at 7:00 Saturday morning, they relived Cap after 20 years full time service in the Shawnee Fire Department. CHIEF WALKER and the rest of the boys ganged up on Cap when he came to work Friday evening and there were brief, simple ceremonies. … Cap joined the department in 1913, worked part time then became full time in 1918. He is a native Texan, came here from the farm lands of Montague County. His love of fire horses probably had more to do with Cap’s choice of fire-fighting than anything. … He served the department under five different chiefs, the late L. A. BROWN, WILSE KENNEDY, MALCOM COUCH, JOHN HESTER and CHIEF WICKER. He was promoted to captain Dec. 5, 1937. Although he was 60 years old just a few weeks ago, he’s still young in mind and spirit as a 16 year old. He can polish off a gallon of ice cream and a platter of chicken gizzards without so much as time out for stretching. He’s a whiz at the domino table if he can just get shed of that double six. The Worley home is at 136 South Oak Street. Besides Mrs. Worely there are CARL and FAY, both of whom grew and graduated from high school here in Shawnee….
