ELIZABETH WOOD MRS. SARAH ELIZABETH WOOD, 62 years of age, died at the family residence Wednesday, October 6 after an illness of one moth. Mrs. Wood was born in Tennessee May 18, 1864 and moved with her parents to Texas in early life and resided in and near Saint Jo for many years. She is survived by five children: HENRY, BRYAN, and MISS JENNIE WOOD of this city, SEWELL WOOD of Burkburnett, and ISAAC WOOD of Oklahoma, now visiting here. Her husband, D. D. WOOD, died about one year ago. Funeral services will be held at the twin churches, north, of Muenster Friday morning by Rev. N. B. HARALSON, her former pastor. C. H. DUNBAR, funeral director, is in charge of arrangements. Rev. W. H. PRESTON, a Methodist minister working in the interest of the AntiSaloon League, gave a lecture at the Methodist Church. MISS OLA MAE GASKINS MISS OLA MAE GASKINS, 19 years of age, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. GASKINS, died near Forestburg October 3 of typhoid, her death being the second in the family with a month. Funeral at Perryman cemetery Monday with C. H. DUNBAR in charge. Mr. TICE and WILLARD MOYERS of Cheyenne, Wyoming are visiting their uncle J. C. MAY and family then will go to Gainesville and Dallas to visit other relatives. State Health Department A.U. WRIGHT, connected with the State Health Department at Austin, made an official visit to Saint Jo to inspect health connections here. Mr. Wright is an engineer with the Department and was sent by Dr. H. O. SAPPINGTON, State Health Officer at the request of Dr. J. E. SMITH, City Health Officer of Saint Jo, to help work out a few problems. The Women’s Missionary Society of the Decatur District met in a district session at Nocona October 5. A profitable program was rendered, led by Conference president, MRS. S. M. BLACK of Denton. Local News Items REV. D. O. COVINGTON of Fort Worth filled his regular appointment here at the Baptist Church. Mr. and Mr. ED FURLOW of Fort Worth visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. MOORE at Coppers. R. J. DONNELL brought to this office Monday the stump of a blood weed taken from his farm 8 south of town that measured four inches in diameter. Mr. Donnell said he used the limbs of the weed for fishing poles, but didn’t say whether he caught any fish with them. H. Y. BILBREY came in and subscribed to The Tribune. W. H. WEBB is among the new subscribers. City Election There were no candidates for the city officers, so the voters had to vote in the dark, so to speak, without knowing for whom to vote. 31 votes were cast for G. C. DAVIS as mayor and HOMER DONNELL for alderman. Word has been received from her home at Bowie that MISS MONA WATSON, who teaches the fifth and sixth grades at Saint Jo, has developed typhoid fever and will be unable to return to school for some time.
