YOUNG died Saturday morning at the home of her daughter MRS. IDA BROWN of Saint Jo. She had been ill for only a short time. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Dye Mound Methodist church with Rev. A. L. DENNIS of Forestburg, Rev. LEON MILNER of Saint Jo and Rev. JOHN RAYMOND of Dye Mound officiating. Interment was arranged by Scott Bros. of Saint Jo. MISS ZULA PARR was born March 8, 1866 in Denton County. She came with her brother to Montague County when she was 13 years old and settled near Mallard. She was married to LEVI W. YOUNG on Dec. 28, 1883 at Dye Mound. She had been a member of the Methodist Church since childhood. Survivors are five daughters, MRS. IDA BROWN of Saint Jo, MRS. MAE LYNCH of Dallas, MRS. MATTIE WILLIAMS of Madill, Oklahoma, MRS. ARTIE KING of Tulia, MRS. OLETA DUNN of Dye Mound; three sons, LENNIE, CURTIS and BRYAN, all of Dye Mound; 35 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, MRS. MAGGIE HOLDER and MRS. MINNIE HOLDER of McCloud/McLoud, Oklahoma, and one brother J. D. PARR of Bowie. Pallbearers were grandsons LEON YOUNG, LUD BROWN, CLAUDE BROWN, PAUL BROWN, WAYNE WILLIAMS, BATSON WILLIAMS, ROSCOE KING, RAYMOND EDWARDS and CARL DENTON. Brief Illness Is Fatal to Hardy Pioneer Funeral services for MISS ADDIE VIOLET JEFFRES / JEFFERIES were held January 18 at the Methodist Church of Hardy with Rev. A. L. DENNIS officiating. Burial was at Friendship Cemetery near Hardy with E. N. DUNBAR as funeral director. Active pallbearers were S. M. STEIN, GEORGE WYLIE, R. T. BUCK, ALLIE GRIFFIN, CLAUDE FLETCHER, HORACE SHEERS, MACK JACKSON, and LINTON MITCHELL. Honorary pallbearers serving as ushers were WALTER HARRIS and SEWELL STOFFLE. Survivors are two sisters MRS. M. PATRICK of El Reno, Oklahoma, and MRS. JOE BIRDSONG of Lubbock, Texas, both being at the bedside when death occurred. She is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews. Miss Jeffres was born March 13, 1876 in Anderson County, Kentucky. She was 62 years at the time of death. She moved to Texas in 1880 and made her home at Hardy where she lived most of her life. She taught in public school during the past 26 years, having been a teacher in the Hardy school for the past five years. She was an active worker in the Methodist Church of which she was a member for many years. She has been the Hardy correspondent for the Saint Jo Tribune for many years. The Hardy school dismissed for services and the children of her grades took an active part. Garden Club The Garden Club met with MRS. T. C. DAVIS on Tuesday afternoon. MISS RUTH SCOTT and MRS.LUKE GRANT presented the program. The next meeting will be a silver tea at the home of MRS. J. H. EMBRY on January 31. Blue Bonnet Study Club The Blue Bonnet Study Club met in the home of RMS. W. E. MEADOR Thursday afternoon. Leader for the afternoon study was MRS. GEORGE PEDIGO with MRS. S.T. MEADOR and MISS RUTH SCOTT. County Federation and County Council MRS. EARL PITTS of Nocona, president of the County Federation, presided at the meeting held at the auditorium of the Saint Jo High School. Rev. A. MCFERRON of the Presbyterian Church gave the opening prayer. Welcome was extended by MISS RUTH SCOTT and response by MRS. TRUE STRONG of Nocona. A trio of high school girls, MARY FARRIER, MILDRED EMBRY and NOMA JEAN MELTON, gave several selections, accompanied by MISS JACQUELYN LAUDERDALE at the piano who also gave several musical numbers. MRS. TRUE STRONG was elected reporter, MISS RUTH SCOTT appointed county chairman for the beautification of highways, assisted by MRS. RAY BEAL of Nocona and MRS. PAUL DONALD of Bowie. The meeting of the County Council of P.T.A. was held in the afternoon. Rev. LEON MILNER of the Methodist Church gave a short talk, followed by a number by DOROTHY LEE PEDIGO. MRS. SHROPSHIRE and MRS. THOMPSON of Nocona gave a report of the state convention held in Lubbock. New officers: MRS.JOHN WOOD of Nocona as president, MRS. W. L. SCOTT of Saint Jo as vice president; W. J. STONE of Nocona as secretary-reporter, and MRS. F. L. PERRY of Nocona as reporter. CARL MARSHALL FENNELL CARL MARSHALL FENNELL, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. FENNELL of Bulcher, died of influenza pneumonia January 14. The boy became ill Sunday morning and was taken to the office of DR. T. S. MYRICH in Muenster Sunday night when he died. Funeral services were held January 16 in the Bulcher church with Rev. CALVIN DENNIS officiating. Burial was in the Coker Cemetery at Bulcher with E. N. DUNBAR funeral home in charge. Pallbearers were H. L. DENNIS Jr., L. P. PENTON, R. E. GREEN and J. D.ATTEBERRY. Survivors are his parents, three sisters, FRANCES LEE, WANDA LOUISE and JOYCE MARIE, one brother BILLIE JOE and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. FENNELL of Bulcher and Mr. and Mrs. C.C. HARBISON of Nocona. He was born December 19, 1936 at Bulcher. His father was away on a trip in New Mexico and Arizona; services were delayed until telephone, wire and radio failed to reach him. The Bulcher school was dismissed for the services and a large number of relatives and family friends from a distance attended the funeral. Presbyterian Missionary Society MISS ISLA BELLAH gave the devotion. Rev. A. L. MCFERREN offered prayer. MRS. W. L. SCOTT was leader of the lesson. Attending were Mesdames GEORGE ROGERS, W. L. SCOTT, W. E. MEADOR, GERTRUDE MITCHELL, SAM PEDIGO, FLOYD WINDER, K. R. DORT, GEORGE PEDIGO, C. F. PHILLIPS, BILL CRUMP and Miss BELLAH. Mr. and Mrs. JOE HAGAN came in from Amarillo in response to the illness of MISS ADDIE JEFFERIES. Mr. and Mrs. ED GALLAGHER and his mother MRS. A. GALLAGHER of Muenster journeyed to Alice, Texas to get DICK GALLAGHER to accompany him to the new Texaco station. KENT BELLAH for photography. Y. LIGON and son JIM of Dallas returned home after visiting her mother MRS. REBECCA REED who has been very ill with pneumonia. MRS. OTTO DOWD is on the sick list. Private GEORGE LAUDERDALE and Private SAMUEL MCDANIELS of Fort Sill, Oklahoma visited Mr. and Mrs. BROWDER LAUDERDALE during last weekend. They returned Sunday accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. LAUDERDALE, their daughters ELOISE and DORTHY JO and Miss ELIZABETH ALDRIEDGE who visited there Sunday afternoon. TOM ELDER, Mr. and Mrs. GARLAND BOYD, Mr. and Mrs. KURZ WILLIAMS and family and Mr. and Mrs. RED FQRQUHAR of Ada, Oklahoma were in Saint Jo the past week. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. MCGRADY and daughter JOAN of Burkburnett visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. MCGRADY. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. HUELETT returned to Oklahoma City after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. PAUL ROBERTS. Unity Club The Unity Club had their annual New Years social in the home of Mr. and Mrs. FRED MEADOR on Thursday, January 2. Games of 42 and Chinese checkers were played. MRS. TOM FIELD was high score in the ladies for 42 and K. R. DORT was high score in the men. Second awards were to Mr. and Mr. WALTER HOOVER, MRS. EARNEST CUNNINGHAM was high in checkers and MRS. R.T. Home Demonstration Club The Home Demonstration Club met at the home of MISS RUTH SCOTT Friday. MISS WILSON gave a demonstration. MRS. KATE WINDER was in charge of the recreation.
