ARTHUR KINGERY of Ada, Oklahoma, a check for $3.66 from Saint Jo, Texas was blown to Tulsa. Former Saint Jo Man Celebrates 80th Birthday J. W. WILLIAMS of Bowie and former resident of Bowie celebrated his 80th birthday Monday of this week. Mr. Williams has lived in Montague for 73 years, coming from Georgia where he was born, to Saint Jo when he was only 7 years old. He and Mrs. Williams were married in 1882 and will celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary on July 4 of this year. They have three living children, MRS. MAMIE TROTTER and MRS. HENRY DAVIS both of Bowie and HOMER WILLIAMS of Cleburne, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Buzzard Traps Demonstrated near Forestburg Forestburg farmers have, for many months, been suffering losses of baby calves and pigs because of vultures or “turkey buzzards” as they are commonly called. Recently County Agent ELLIOTT and game warden HARLEY BERG gave a demonstration on the TIBBET farm near Forestburg on the construction of buzzard traps, make from poultry and hob wire and baited with a calf carcass. It is estimated that at least 750 of these buzzards roost near the Tibbet farm. MCGRADY-LAMB MISS ELIZABETH MCGRADY of this city and MILFORD LAMB of Burkburnett were united in marriage in a simple ceremony in the parsonage of the Whaley Memorial church in Gainesville Sunday afternoon, April 2 at 4 o’clock. Rev. EARL J. PATTON, pastor of the church and cousin of the bride, read the beautiful ceremony. CAS BURNS Funeral services for ULIS BURNS Jr., 15, were held in the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon with Rev. PAUL THOMSPON, pastor, officiating. The service in song was given by a sextette composed of Mesdames LUKE GRANT, J. H. EMBRY, C. E. CUNNINGHAM, and Messrs. T. C. DAVIS, C. E. CUNNINGHAM and S. C. ROACH with MISS ALICE LAUDERDALE at the piano. Interment was at Mountain Park Cemetery arranged by Scott Bros. Active pallbearers wree S. J. PEDIGO, J. H. EMBRY, LUKE GRANT, W. M. LEDBETTER, A. B. In 1930 the Burns family moved to Saint Jo and have resided here since that time. Junior was a member of the freshman class at Saint Jo High School. For several years, he suffered a heart ailment, but no word of complaint passed his lips. Always happy, joyous and carefree, he lived with a smile on his lips and met death with the same smile. J. G. MAY and his son E. E. MAY, who have recently moved to Saint Jo from Tucson, Arizona, took over the East Texas Service Station. April 28, 1939 Honored on His 83rd Birthday PETER B. ARTHUR, who has been living on the banks of Red River north of Saint Jo in the Leon community since 1876, will be 83 years old on April 29. His neighbors are planning a birthday party for him with a cake, candles and a sumptious dinner. His Masonic fraternity play to visit him during the birthday party. Mr. Arthur is well remembered in Saint Jo by all the older citizens and business men as this was his trading center for many, many years. The Tribune subscription files have P. B. Miss Wilson Chosen Saint Jo Duchess The contest to choose a duke and duchess to represent Saint Jo at the Gainesville Round-up on April 28, closed Saturday evening. MISS MARTHA JO WILSON won the honor with MISS MARGARET GILES and MISS MILDRED EMBRY as runners-up. GEORGE PEDIGO jr. will act as her escort, winning over ROSCOE RAYMOND. MRS. T. A. WILEY Celebrated 91st Birthday On April 17, MRS. T. A. WILEY of this city celebrated her 91st birthday in her home, corner Broad and Crump Streets. The day was passed quietly with her husband, her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. FLEMING, Miss ELIZABETH FLEMING and DEWILEY FLEMING and her son D. W. WILEY and their children, JOSEPHINE, ROY, and BILLY of Wichita Falls. JOSEPHINE shared honors with her grandmother as she was born on Mrs. Wiley’s 78th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. WILEY have lived in Saint Jo for many, many years, coming here with their family from the Hardy community. They are members of the Methodist Church and have always taken an active part in the religious life of town. They have another son JAMES R. WILEY in Denton. DR. J. B. CARMICHAEL Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Duncan, Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon for DR. J. B. CARMICHAEL, 74, who died at his home there Saturday morning, conducted by Rev. ROY L. HURST of the church, assisted by Rev. KNOX BOWLING of the Presbyterian Church in Duncan. Interment was in the Duncan cemetery. Survivors are his wife, three daughters, MRS. J. M. CARMICHAEL of Ringgold, and three grandchildren. JOSEPH BROWN CARMICHAEL was born in South Carolina on Sept. 14, 1864. During his childhood, he moved with his parents to Georgia. In this state he received his education. He married MISS SALLIE SMITHSON at Borene, Texas 52 years ago. His early practice was in Montague County and the family lived in Saint Jo for many years. In 1919 they moved to Duncan where they resided. He was a member of the Saint Jo Masonic lodge, Baptist church in Duncan, past president of the Stephens County Medical Association , city and county health officer for the past four years.
