JOE HUTSON of Route Two, whose leg was broken in an accident last week, is improving. MRS. WOODROW JONES is reported as improving. Honoring MISS DORIS LAUDERDALE, whose birthday was July 6, and CECIL ROBERTS of Gainesville, whose birthday was July 9, a dinner was given by Miss Lauderdale’s mother, MRS. BROWDER LAUDERDALE, in the tea room of the Palace café Sunday. After the dinner, the following guests went to Gainesville to see “Goodbye Mr. Chips:” Misses ELIZABETH JANE ALDRIEDGE, OLA LEE MCINTIRE, ELOISE, DORIS and DOROTHY JO LAUDERDALE, Messrs. BILL FAVORS, DAN LUNDLEN, GEORGE L. LAUDERDALE, ROY W. BELLAH, and CECIL ROBERTS. The first bale of cotton for 1939 was brought in by J. G. CANNON and Sons near Caps Corner. MRS. ROSA TUCKER announce that the former BERNICE’S Beauty Shop on the East Side of the square will be open for business August 12 under the new name Saint Jo Beauty Saloon. Mrs. Tucker will manage the salon which will be operated by MISS LOUISE CRENSHAW, who comes here from Nocona, an expert beautician. Foster-Wallace A wedding of interest was that of MISS ALTO FOSTER, daughter of MRS. NOVELLA WEBB, and JOHN W. WALLACE of Dallas which took place August 5 at the First Baptist Church of Marietta, Oklahoma wit Rev. JAMES V. GRAY reading the vows. Eh bride wore a navy blue sheer with white accessories. Mrs. Wallace was reared in the Gladys community and attended Saint Jo High School. Ride Through the Country Mr. and Mrs. CLARENCE O’NEAL have some pretty flowers at their filling station which show real care. MRS. W. H. BROWNING is making sweet pickles from peaches grown in her orchard for the Tipton Orphans Home. I had the pleasure of seeing the largest variety of canned fruits and vegetables I’ve seen this year in Mr. and Mrs. C. W. BOYDSTON’S cellar. Every kind of vegetable that grows here, except okra, was represented in the display of about 400 jars. The Boydstons live on the N. H. MARTIN lease on the King farm on Route 2. MISS MARY JANE CONLEY of Oklahoma City was honored when her aunt MISS RUTH SCOTT entertained with a party Friday morning at her home on West Howell Street. Refreshments were served to Misses BOBBIE JEAN MCGRADY, CONSTANCE MELTON, TOMMIE JO HOOVER, CHARLENE WILSON, FRANCES MAE DUNBAR, JO HOOVER, DIANNIE RICHIE and the guest MARY JANE CONLEY. CHRISTINE NORTHCUTT CHRISTINE NORTHCUTT, infant daughter of Mrs. NAOMI NORTHCUTT, died August 5, 1939 at her home near Forestburg after several days of illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Perryman cemetery with Rev. GEORGE MITCHELL officiating, arranged by E. B. Dunbar Funeral Home. Surviving are the mother and one brother, ELMER, grandparents and other relatives. MRS. ELLEN MOREHEAD, who lived in the Starkey community for 20 years until 1936, left Tuesday for her new home at College Station, after visiting her children in California, friends and relatives in Cooke and Montague counties and relatives in Oklahoma. To her the Saint Jo Tribune is like getting a letter from home so she renewed her subscription for a year. She will have charge of several college boys in her own home at College Station. Mr. and Mrs. L. T. MOSLEY and Mrs. MABEL WARE attended the homecoming at Bonita. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. MILLIKINS and Mrs. TEOLA MILLIKIN and son PAUL DAVID and a guest from Dallas visited at Turner Falls, Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. WEBB had as guests Mr. and Mrs. LOUIS C. WEBB of Burkburnett, Miss MARY MAE BAILEY of Ranger, and C. M. SLAUGHER of Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Their daughter LORAINE WEBB is visiting at Ryan, Oklahoma. Miss VIRGINIA LAUDERDALE, who has been in Dallas, was taken to the Baylor Hospital for a major operation. Mrs. S. A. GORDON has as guests, a niece MRS. ELLA THOMPSON of Sulphur Springs, Oklahoma and a granddaughter MRS. EUNICE SHORTING and small son of Toronto, Canada. After a visit here, Mrs. Shorting will be accompanied home by her father CLAUD TUCK who visit in Canada with Mrs. Shorting and his youngest son TAYLOR. Mrs. T. N. FIELDS left for Celina, Kansas to visit her niece MRS. ARRINGTON, the former SYBIL WYLIE. Mrs. Fields will be accompanied by her sister MRS. D. W. WYLIE and children JOSEPHINE and BILLIE of Wichita Falls. MRS. DAVE MCCURTY and son of Plainview are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE ROGERS and family. STANLEY SUMMERS, who attended George Pepperdine College in Los Angeles, returned to his home north of town. Driving through with him was R. R. LAMB of Los Angeles who will remain with his aunt MRS. CLYDE YETTER and family for a visit. MISS CHARLOTTE ROACH of Wichita Falls visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. ROACH. MRS. MILFORD LAMB of Burkburnett visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. MCGRADY last weekend. Her sister VIRGINIA accompanied her home for a visit. MRS. MOLLIE BULLINER returned from an extended visit to Washington, D. C. with her daughter MRS. BROOKS TOOD and Mr. Todd and son PHILLIP. MISS FRANCES TAYLOR of Fort Worth is visiting MISS GOLDA SMITH. Mr. and Mrs. LOYAL BURCHFIELD have as guest her sister MISS LEON JILLSON of Norman, Oklahoma. For the first time in about 15 years, all the children of MRS. S. M. KIDD were together at her home northeast of town. Mrs. Kidd has been very ill but is now improved. Visiting were Mr. and Mrs. J. MRS. W. E. MEADOR has as guest MRS. LEX B. MORRIS of Bryan. Mrs. Morris is the former MISS LINDEL HENRY who taught school at Saint Jo. Miss BLANCHE HAMMER of Muenster visited MISS MARTHA JO WILSON. MRS. CORA MOORE and children visited at Calera, Oklahoma. Visiting the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. ROACH Sunday were MRS. JACK LYDAY and children RUSSELL, JACKIE and JIMMIE, Mr. and Mrs. JOHN ROACH and daughter LOUISE, all of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, MRS. BYRIL MILNER and MRS. LETA FLETCHER of Houston, and DAISY CAROLYN TITSWORTH of Breckenridge. They attended the homecoming at Bonita Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. JIM IVINS visited their son WALT IVINS and Mrs. IVINS of Post Oak. MRS. BELL BRYANT of Beaumont returned home after visiting her aunt, MRS. S. A. GORDON and cousins, CLAUD and LUM TUCK. Mr. and Mrs. LUM TUCK accompanied Mrs. Bryant to Valley View where she took the train home. Bonita News Another homecoming day for Bonita was a happy occasion. A feature that was especially enjoyed by old timers was a miniature Bonita as it was a number of years ago. This feature was prepared by MRS. J. W. LATHAM and MISS CLARA GOLDSMITH. Possibly the oldest “old timer” was MRS. NANCY HAGGARD. Twenty Years Ago BEN HARWOOD was in Bonita on business. MRS. LEM WATERS left to visit relatives at Hollis, Oklahoma. MRS. ALVA MARIE YOUNT of Sherman came to visit her friend MRS. WATLER MCGRADY. Mr. and Mrs. S. H. MORTON of Seymour, Texas came to visit her uncle Rev. T. J. EASON and family. MISS JEWELL TAYLOR and MISS HAZEL SPEER of Alvord came to Saint Jo to visit their friend MRS. B. R. EZZELL. MRS. SMITH and grandson LYNN DAVIS went to Waurika, Oklahoma to visit their son and uncle, SAM SMITH. Rev. and Mrs. W. S. DABNEY are baby returned from a visit with relatives and friends at Greenville, Dallas and Weatherford. MISSES LEONA and LENA ROWLAND and Miss ANNA WALTERS visited MRS. W. M. BERRY. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. LEWIS ELLIOTT five miles west of Saint Jo, July 30, 1919. MRS. KATHRYN LANE returned from Denton where she attended the funeral of a friend MISS VILLA CURTIS. Dr. and Mrs. J. P. THOMAS of Bowie motored to Saint Jo to visit their friends Dr. and Mrs. B. R. EZZELL, returning home Monday. Mrs. J. F. DOUGHTY returned from Dallas where she visited her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. JAMES GREEN. DON DOWD, who has been working in the Burkburnett oil field, came home. MRS. T. M. BLACK and son WILLIAM left to visit her friend MRS. R. S. STUCHUL of Ardmore and her husband’s sister at New Wilson, Oklahoma. MISS LOREE WILSON, who has been taking a summer session at CIA in Denton, returned to her home at Dye Mound, accompanied by her mother MRS. L. S. WILSON. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. PHILLIPS visited relatives at Nocona. B. D. BARNES, after a short visit with relatives here, returned home to Honey Grove. FLOYD HOLMES, after a visit with his brother J. W. HOLMES and family, returned to Fort Worth. MRS. R. A. BOWERS and children of Childress arrived to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. PEERY and relatives. LUTHER SLAUGHTER motored to McKinney after his mother MRS. J. P. SLAUGHTER, who has been spending some time there with her daughter MISS HETTIE, who is under medical treatment at the Caldwell Sanitarium. MISS ELLEN COLE returned from a visit with relatives in Wichita Falls, Wellington, and Albuquerque, N. M. MRS. THOMAS F. HUGHES and daughter, MRS. J. H. FIELD, went to Ryan, Oklahoma to visit their son and brother ROBERT HUGHES and family. CHESTER HOLMES, in charge of the Planet Petroleum Co.’s interests in the Desdemona oil field in Eastland County, came to visit home folks. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. BROWN, daughter MRS. WILL GEER and their sons ROBERT, GEORGE Jr. and baby boy BILL motored over from Gainesville to Saint Jo in two handsome Studebaker cars and spent two days with relatives, returning on the train. The cars were left here with H. D. FIELD and MRS. NELLIE SKELTON who bought them from ROBERT who has the agency for Studebaker cars. D. C. BERRY was in Dallas to see about getting repairs for his engine at the light plant which broke down last week. FRED MEADOR, CAREY MEEK and ARTHUR PHILLIPS were in Kansas City with a shipment of cattle. MRS. MOLLIE HALEY of Ector, Missouri arrived to visit relatives, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. PHILLIPS. MRS. W. E. SCOTT and little daughter EYLA NELL went to Duncan, Oklahoma to visit MRS. J. P. SAMPSON. MRS. B. S. KIMBRELL and son BAILEY of Washington, D. C. are here to visit her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. C. F. PHILLIPS. MRS. C. W. VARNEY and children, who spent two months with relatives in Saint Jo, left for Duncan, Oklahoma where Mr. Varney has moved from Norman, Oklahoma. She was accompanied to Duncan with her mother MRS. JOE ALDRIEDGE and her nephew, BIGE DAIVS who are visiting there. MRS. JNO. T. LAUDERDALE went to Gainesville to be with her husband who was taken seriously ill there at the home of their son TURNER LAUDERDALE. She was accompanied by her son S.M. LAUDERDALE who returned home.
