H. PERKINS MILLIE PERKINS, wife of W. H. PERKINS of the Starkey community, died Thursday around noon at the home of her daughter MRS. TOMMY D. MITCHELL of the W. A. MITCHELL farm seven miles west of town. Survivors include her husband, four daughters MRS. MITCHELL, MARY NELL, WILIE MAE, CARMA; three sons, BILLY GENE, HERSCHEL GLEN, and JAMES; her mother MRS. J. P SLATON of Saint Jo, three brothers JEFF SLATON of Hollis, Oklahoma, JOHN SLATON of Saint Jo and J. P. SLATON in the U. S. Navy; and two sisters MRS. BILL REDMAN of Saint Jo and MRS. T. A. PATE of Lubbock. A Ride Through the Country J. H. CONYERS planted several acres of peas. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. FLANNERY planted a large fall garden. The T. L. LYNNS planted a variety of vegetables. J.T. BROWNING’S field produces some very good June corn. The children of Mr. and Mrs. E. O. CASTLE are grieving over the loss of a pet horse which was older than any of them and on which all of them learned to ride. Saint Jo Schools to Open Sept. 11 The school will have an enrollment of 468 and a teaching force of 16 with six buses to bring children from surrounding districts. The faculty: D. M. RUSSELL as superintendent, W. M. LEDBETTER as high school principal and coach, ROLAND W. DAVIDSON for commercial arts, AUBREY D. WHEAT for vocational agriculture, ANNETTE LOMBARDO for English, KATHARINE ROGERS for English and speech, DORIS CLARK for history and government, MARGARET WEAVER for home economics, MRS. SARA JANE EDWARDS as elementary principal, AUSTIN B. PEARCE of social sciences, JACK HUEY for arithmetic and health, CECILIA CUNNINGHAM for music, MARY JO MERKT for art, MARY RUTH DUNCAN, VIRGINIA LAUDERDALE, MAURESES PUTNUM for primary grades. Other advantages are lessons available from MRS. W. M. LEDBETTER for piano and PAUL MARTIN for lessons in hand instruments. New Chapter of the Deaf Organized At a meeting at the residence of J. L. MCGREGOR, a new chapter of the Texas Association of the Deaf was organized. LEO L. LEWIS of Dallas, president of the state association, was present to officiate. Talks were given by LOUIS B. S. T. PAYNE left for Ennis to attend the annual reunion of Parson’s Brigade. WATSON WILLIAMS is at Lancaster where he will the Katy RR station agent for 30 days. C. W. BROOME of Sulphur, I. T. came to visit relatives and attend the picnic. MISS HATTIE THOMAS returned from Ardmore, I. T. MISS. E. GRIFFIS returned from a visit at Gainesville. MISS ORA ALDRIEDGE returned from a visit with MRS. HENRY PHILLIPS at Whitesboro. A.J. PATE of Gladys left for California to visit his sister and other relatives. A.B. BUTLER, brother of MRS. W. FRANK HARRIS, came from Clarksville to attend the picnic. MRS. DELLA OWENS of Denison is here to visit her stepfather and mother Mr. and Mrs. J. T. POINDEXTER. Professor S. J. CRESWELL and family went to Van Alstyne to visit Mrs. Creswell’s parents. JOHN KEITHLEY went to Wichita Falls to be the check clerk for the Katy RR. JOHN BLEVINS returned from Dallas where he graduated from the Metropolitan Business College. MISS LENA HERLINGER, sister of MRS. COLE MABRY, returned to Oak Cliff. MISS CLARA HORTON of Spanish Fort and MISS ANNA MCSPADDEN of Illinois Bend visited MISS CARRIE JOHNSON and attended the picnic. MISS LILLIAN MCNEECE of Ardmore, I. T. came to visit and attend the picnic. She is a niece of DR. H. C. ERIE. The many friends of S.A. BRYANT were delighted to see him on the streets again. This is the first time in seven months that he was able to come to town. MRS. J. L. MOSLEY and MISS ELLA JACKSON, both of Gainesville, came to visit their cousin MS. W. E. TOMME and attend the picnic. JOURNEY HENDRICKS and JOHN DURHAM returned home on Elm, a few miles south of town, after a trip through west Texas and Greer County. J.M. ALLEN, who has been working in Millikin Bros. Blacksmith Shop for nearly a year, left with his family for Chickasha, I. T. to make their home. DR. E. A. CARSON of Leitchfield, Kentucky has located in Saint Jo and prepared to do any kind of dental work. Rev. JAMES ANDERSON, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will preach here on the first and third Sabbaths of each month. Forestburg News Mr. and Mrs. CASEY JONES and daughter were in Fort Worth. Mr. and Mrs. ERNEST THURMAN and children were here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. MCCURDEY, MRS. JOHNNY MILLER and children, MISS JOHNNY MTICHELL, who visited their daughter and sister, MRS. GEORGE STEGALL, retuned to Gotebo, Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. EMMETT COX and children of Montague were here. MRS. I. M. JONS, MRS. CECIL JONES and daughter and HENRY BRICE ROMINES visited at Sunset and Bowie. Henry Brice took the train at Bowie to return to his home at Memphis. Mr. and Mrs. PRYOR MCGEE and children, MRS. HORACE LITTELL, Mr. and Mrs. ROSS LITTELL, MRS. C. C. PERRYMAN and HOMER ARTHUR LITTELL drove to Mineral Wells to attend a family reunion. Mrs. Perryman’s daughter MRS. ENGEL and sons returned with them to visit here. Mr. and Mrs. ROY BOX, MRS. BARRETT MOORE and WANDA and LEE BOX drove to Weatherford where Wanda Lee remained for school. We regret to know that MRS. LOIS MASSEY obtained a position in the Bellevue school which means she leaves here. Mr. and Mrs. O.K. COOK and son H. D. were in Bowie. Mr. and Mrs. ROE SLEDGE were in Bowie. BEN JONES, WANDA LEE BOX and ELLA JANE MCGEE visited at Decatur. MRS. MEB DUNN, MRS. AMY SATTERFIELD, EVELYN DUNN, and BETTYE TOM JONES were in Saint Jo. J. L. Dowd’s, in response to a telephone call, went to Bulcher and ginned their first bale of cotton. It was for BERNIE FRANKLIN. MRS. MABEL FLEMING was in Denton. OTTO DOWD and daughter SUE ANN of Bulcher visited Mr. and Mrs. MILTON BUCK and family. MRS. MAXEY DOWD left to visit her sisters MRS. P. DODGIN at Nocona and MISS ETHEL BROWNING at Wichita Falls. Mr. and Mrs. JESS SPENCER of Olton, Texas spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. FRANK SPENCER. Mr. and Mrs. MALLOY BUCK and child spent the weekend with relatives near Nocona. MRS. CLIFF DOWD and son EDWARD, accompanied her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. MARTIN, to a “COBB Reunion’ Sunday held at Sulphur, Oklahoma. Mrs. Dowd said there were 39 relatives present and a number of friends. Mrs. Dowd’s mother was the oldest member present. The reunion is to be held at Nocona next year. “BLACKIE” FRANKLIN returned form visiting relatives at Sayre, Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. WILLIS FLEMING went to Denton. EMMA LOU went with them to spend a few days before she enters school for the winter term.
